MRI Forearm Radius and Ulna Both Test

MRI Forearm Radius and Ulna Both Test

A MRI ( magnetic resonance imaging) scan is done by using strong magnets to create pictures of the area under scan. X-rays or radiation is not used in a MRI scan. MRI scan is one of the safest imaging procedures available.

Before the MRI scan procedure is started, a written consent from will be taken from the patient outside the scanner room. The patient will be asked to remove all metal objects including keys, coins, wallet, cards with magnetic strips, jewellery, hearing aid and hairpins. The procedure will then be explained to you. Your weight shall be noted down. You shall be instructed to remain still. If you are claustrophobic, you shall be provided a chaperone (relative or staff). You can ask for earplugs or headphones, with music, for extra comfort. Sometimes, pregnant women might be advised against a MRI. If you have a cardiac pacemaker, insulin pump biostimulator, neurostimulator, cochlear implants, ferromagnetic surgical clips, metal shrapnel, bullet or any other metallic foreign body, make sure to inform the doctor before the test is conducted.

As mentioned above, MRI is an imaging procedure. A MRI of Forearm (Radius and Ulna Both) helps in detecting the following:

  • Marrow abnormalities such as bone contusions, osteonecrosis and stress fractures
  • Synovial disorders such as bursitis, tenosynovitis and synovitis
  • Infections in the bone, joint and soft tissue such as osteoarthritis
  • Avascular necrosis
  • Nerve impingement
  • Fractures in children
  • Occult fracture
  • Ligament tear
  • Soft tissue masses

You might be asked to wear a hospital gown. Then, you will lie on a narrow table which will slide into a tunnel which is the scanner. You shall lie down with your head pointing towards the magnet. Your body might be tightened using straps to prevent issues due to respiration. You can ask for a pillow under the head and legs for added comfort. Sometimes, a dye might be injected in your arm using a vein before a test. This helps the radiologist see areas in a better way. During the procedure, the person who is in control of the machine watches you from another room. The test usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Rs 250- Rs 1000
