The Ascitic Aspartate test is performed on a sample of ascitic fluid to measure the level of Cell Count, SAAG - Transudates, Protein – Exudates, and Neutrophils in the ascitic fluid. It is performed to detect Ascites, Cirrhosis, GI malignancy and Ovarian malignancy.
No special preparation is needed for the Ascitic Aspartate test. But, it is recommended to do the following: Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing the test. Depending on your condition, the doctor will give specific instructions.
The normal result for the Ascitic Aspartate test is as follows: Ascitic Aspartate Automated Ascitic Fluid for Cell Count is < 500 leukocytes/microliter for unisex gender and for all age groups. SAAG - Transudates is > 1.1g/dl for unisex gender and for all age groups. Protein - Exudates is > 2.5 g/dl for unisex gender and for all age groups. Neutrophils is < 250 for unisex gender and for all age groups.
The Ascitic Aspartate test involves the following: The test is done using automated method on an Ascitic Fluid sample. During this test, smears made from aspirated fluid are stained with Pap stain and MGG/Leishman stain.
