You need not consume solid foods 2-4 hours before the scan. You may be also asked to stop taking certain medications. You need to drink 2 bottles of Readi-Cat II prior to your examination. You should wear loose comfortable clothes or may get a gown from the hospital for the examination. You are also instructed to remove all metal items like jewelry, hairpins, hearing aids, keys or cards. You also need to inform the doctor regarding your medical history or any severe disorders.

You need to position on the examination table, usually lying flat on your back. The technologist will then explain you the entire procedure of the scanning. If the doctor has ordered CT scan along with contrast then it will be injected into your vein. The examination table will then slide into the scanner machine. You may also be asked to hold your breath at times and to avoid any movement. The scanning procedure usually takes 15-30 minutes. After the completion of the procedure, you may be asked to wait until the technologist verifies the quality of the images.
