A Whipple procedure, also known as pancreaticoduodenectomy, is a complex operation to treat pancreatic head cancers. In this, the head of the pancreas, the first part of the small intestine (duodenum), the gallbladder and the bile duct are removed. Following this, the intestinal continuity is restored by joining the cut end of the pancreas, bile duct and stomach to the small intestine.
