Social Anxiety - How To Get Rid Of It?

lybrate_youtube

Hi,

I am Seema Agarwal so let's talk about social anxiety today. Social anxiety disorder also known as social phobia is an intense fear of becoming extremely anxious or possibly humiliated in a social situation. It is a fear of being closely watched, judged and criticized by others. A person focuses on every small mistake they make socially and they tend to exaggerate them. People suffering from this disorder think that everybody else is far better than them and that is why they tend to avoid the situation altogether. It definitely disrupts normal life, it interferes with schooling, career, relationships and other activities like public speaking, dating, networking, socializing. The dread of an event can begin weeks in advance and the symptoms can be quite debilitating. Understanding about social anxiety is the most important step towards not feeling lost or unaware of why and where it happens. People suffering from social anxiety tend to have unusual thoughts including false beliefs about social situations. They fear and they have a lot of negative opinion about themselves.

The fear they suffer from the fear of this situation weeks before it happens this is called anticipatory anxiety. Social phobia can manifest physical symptoms also like confusion, pounding of heart, sweating, shaking, blushing, then muscle tension, upset stomach and in severe cases diarrhoea. Children suffering from social anxiety may express themselves by crying, clinging to a parent or having a fit of rage. When extreme anxiety can turn into a full panic attack, people in this situation definitely feel a lot of distress when they are amongst people and that is because of these symptoms they tend to avoid the situation altogether in the first place. The cause of social anxiety disorder or social phobia is a complex blend of biological, psychological and environmental factors.

In our 3 primary goals of social anxiety disorder treatment: to identify the mis-interpretations of social interactions and developing healthy thoughts, to minimise physical symptoms and to help them stop avoiding the social situation. The prospects of sufferers of social anxiety disorder are good. If the treatment is pursued many people improve and live a happier life and as soon as the symptoms surface, seeking the help of a psychologist is necessary and recommended to overcome your concerns. You are not alone; many people are sailing in the same boat. To know more about social anxiety disorder or to book an appointment with us kindly visit Lybrate.
