Hello doctor, my baby boy is 16 months of age and his weight is 8.9 kgs (still takes mother feed no other milk at all). His birth weight was 2.4 kgs. We are giving him vitamin d3 (arbivit d3 and earlier we also gave him d-sol and other few such medicines as prescribed by our doctor) drops (1ml/day). His vitamin d3 drops have not been regular means we have been able to give him these drops 5 days in every 7 days. Doctor had also advised him iron drops and zincovite which he did not take regularly. Is this a serious problem? our main problem with him is that that he does not eat food. We have tried lot of home made items which our doctor and friends have advised but he does not want to eat food at all. We have to do 100 of tricks and games (which is not possible at each and every diet and especially if we are out of home) in his each diet to distract him so that he can eat some portion of the food at least. Also sometime we are not successful in making him eat even after doing all this. This has been an issue since last 5-6 months but this problem has increased many fold from last 1.5 months since he was admitted to hospital due to excessive vomiting and loose motions. He has also developed allergy with lactose which is another issue. Please advise what should we do so that he starts eating food. We try 3-4 times in a day but he takes even half of that. He does not even want to open his mouth as seen as he sees the food and starts crying and shouting. Please advise.

He is suffering from constipation.  he should be on a good fibre rich diet. Give plenty of water.  regular laxative if needed along with a good diet plan. As constipation is a chronic problem in most cases and most common cause is habitual constipation.  You must ensure a regular bowel time after a drink irrespective of passage of stool. He should be sitting for sometime say 10_ 15 minutes in a fixed time daily in a Indian style toilet.

As such if a child is having normal indian food then there is no need of a supplement at all but if child is not eating properly then first approach should be towards proper eating habits and not just to give supplements bcz no supplement can give you proper nutrition still if you want to give then they all have different nutritive value and you can give them alternatively.

You have not mentioned his weight and height. If weight is appropriate for the age nothing to worry. Nowadays putting on lot weight is not advisable as its a associated with various health complicates like diabetes, hypertension etc. To improve his immunity give nutritious diet and engage him in physical activity.

It is an art than science to teach children eat healthy food. Take him along with you when you take your meals. Let him see how and what you eat. Don't scold in order to follow quickly. He will learn by watching you, parents are role model to children. They will behave the same way you behave. Love them, understand them, they have mind of their own. You also know how difficult is our mind to control. So more difficult will be for child. But love will ultimately triumph all. Have patience and wor...more

Your child is perfectly heathy for his age. There is no need to give commercial food or drink but freshly prepared home made cereals. Never ever go by tall claims of these baby food manufacturers. They are expensive and never ever better than home made preparation tailored to need test texture of food.
Best wishes.

If the child is taking other calcium containing foods like cabbage, broccoli etc milk consumption is not an issue at that age. Weight is o. K. For the age.
