CREMALAX

The Cremalax tablet is prescribed to patients who are experiencing symptoms like bowel evacuation and constipation. This medicine gently stimulates the bowel muscles to increase peristalsis and helps in propelling the contents of bowel out of the body. Certain side effects of the medicine are abdominal cramps, discomfort in abdomen, abdominal pain, dizziness in the body and fainting.

Uses

Sodium picosulfate provides relief from constipation and it is also used (in combination with magnesium oxide and anhydrous citric acid) to empty the bowel before colonoscopy (internal examination of colon to check for cancers or other abnormalities).

Side Effects

Fainting, acne-like rash, decreased urination, black stool, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, seizures, vomiting, abdominal pain

Expert Advice

Don’t exceed the consumption of sodium picosulfate continuously on a daily basis for more than 5 days. If you feel constipated, see your doctor. This medicine may lead to fluid and mineral (electrolyte) imbalance or low potassium in the blood. Consult your doctor before starting the medicine if you have a history of diseases like ulcers or inflammation of the bowel, heart or kidney problems, fits, imbalance of minerals in the blood, troubles swallowing or are prone to choking. Sodium picosulfate should be avoided if you show denial to alcohol or benzodiazepine drugs. Don’t drive or operate machinery while you are on the course of this medicine as it might make you feel dizzy or you might faint. While consulting the doctor, make sure you tell him about all your medical history and the medication you are currently on. Children under 10 years of age should not use it unless under the high supervision of the doctor. Take an advice from your doctor before consuming the medicine if you are planning a pregnancy or already pregnant or breastfeeding.

How it works?

Sodium picosulfate belongs to the group of drugs called laxatives and works by gently stimulating the bowel muscles to increase peristalsis (wave-like muscle contractions that move food along the digestive tract) and propel the contents of bowel out of the body. It also provides overnight relief from constipation and helps the body to return to its natural cycle.

Maybe you could do a food diary for a period, eliminate a couple of items at a time and build up until you have added enough other of good items to make the stools loose.
