Throbbing Pain in Your Muscles - 7 Ways You Can Deal With it

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, DNB Anaesthesiology, PDCC - Pain Management
Pain Management Specialist, Mumbai
Throbbing Pain in Your Muscles - 7 Ways You Can Deal With it

The musculoskeletal structure of your body is what enables you do any physical movement. The bones provide the solid structure while the muscles provide the strength and agility for all the necessary movements. However, muscles can be affected either due to internal problems within the body or due to wear and tear. Pain in the muscles can be quite debilitating and problematic.

Some of the more common methods to treat and deal with muscle pain are mentioned below.

  1. Correct electrolyte imbalances in your daily food intake: Electrolytes are important minerals required in your body such as potassium or magnesium. A lack of these minerals within the body will cause muscle pain including cramps and spasms. These could be caused due to:
  2. Proper stretching and massaging your muscles: You should get into a habit of properly warming up and cooling down before and after exercising as this will allow the muscles to get into optimal physical condition. If you suddenly start exercising, it may damage them and cause immediate pain or may develop into chronic pain over time. The best way to correct this imbalance is to include foods in your diet which contain these minerals, such as bananas for potassium, organic meat for potassium and magnesium, organic eggs, and legumes.
  3. Start exercising if you aren’t doing it regularly: Muscle pain may occur due to atrophy or weakening of the muscles. Bad habits and posture overtime will also result in muscle pain and the best way to strengthen them is to start exercising and stretching them slowly. Once they are strong enough, some of the muscle pain issues will go away on their own.
  4. Correcting bad posture: Bad posture is another culprit for muscle pain. Especially common with sedentary jobs behind a desk postures tend to deteriorate overtime and cause, muscle pain. Thus along with exercising, try to change your posture and correct any bad habit that may have crept in.
  5. Stay hydrated: Dehydration is another common cause for muscle pain especially from muscle spasms or cramps. Ensure that you are properly hydrated throughout the day to avoid pain from spasms.
  6. Use either hot or cold therapy: You can use ice packs or hot water packs to soothe muscle pain depending on the type of causes. For example, throbbing muscle pain and spasms can be relaxed through warm compress while inflammations can be soothed by icepacks.
  7. Medications: In certain disorders of the body such as fibromyalgia, you will need to take specialized medications in order to correct the problem. For excessive and chronic pain, you should visit your doctor as it may require more extensive treatment. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Dear dr. I have a pain in my right joint of shoulder. I guess it is call tendo pain. Is it a cervical spondylitis. Have taken physiotherapy for 10 days. Pain has got reliefed but not fully. At some times it pains. Can you suggest what needs to be done.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Shoulder pain could be due to multiple reasons like tendinitis, arthrosis, rotator cuff pathology etc. Cervical spondylitis is an entirely different pathology so the two should not be confused at all. Your pain could be due to some tendinitis in your shoulder. But since physical therapy has helped you, I advise to continue the same and take short course anti-inflammatory medication for 5-7 days. Please let me know if your pain increases, or if it is associated with any other issue? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Is straightening of hairs with professional straightener can cause any damage to our hairs?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Generally, using any external and unnatural agent on the body may lead to possible side effects. Hair straightening is no exception. The different methods of hair straightening include direct heat and harsh chemicals which may prove dangerous at times. You cannot be sure of the product being used by your stylist.--------------------while applying chemicals for the first time, you may be unsure if you are allergic to such compositions. It is often seen that stepping out in the sun with straightened hair may cause damage to hair health mainly because of the harmful uv rays. The chemicals might react adversely when they are exposed to direct sunlight. Therefore, it is extremely important to check the products that are used in the procedure or your stylist should perform an allergic test before using chemical on your hairs-----------------------. 1. One of the most common side effects of hair straightening is excessive dryness. Use of hair dryer makes the situation even worse. Hair loses its natural moisture to a great extent; it begins to look dull and frizzy every time you step out.-------------------------- 2. Allergic reactions mainly occur due to chemical reactions associated with hair straightening. In this case, the side effect may appear immediately after the treatment or few days after. Some of the allergies due to hair straightening include itchiness on skin and scalp, redness of scalp, rashes, itching of the eye and red eye. You should consult a doctor immediately if any side effect persists for more than a day.---------------------------- 3. Another side effect of straightening is boredom in case of permanent straightening as once you straighten your hair permanently, it is very difficult to change the hairstyle again. In case of temporary straightening too, wearing a different style becomes impossible at times.------------- 4. Another clinical side effect of hair straightening is severe hair fall. Many people, who have straightened their hairs, have experienced the same. Use of poor quality chemicals and improper technique of using the straightening iron breaks the hair from the roots. In long term, the hair follicles become weak and hair fall continues-------------------------- avoiding the side effects of hair straightening is easy and possible. For this, you need to visit a good and trustable hair stylist. Make sure the stylist you are engaging is a hair straightening expert and he uses good brand of styling products which are tested by dermatologists. Do not make a fuss while undergoing the treatment, and take good care of your hair to avoid the side effects.------------------------------- so in nutshell, you will have to go for straightening from a professional hair stylist and secondlly handle hairs with care after hair straightening------------------------

Hello. We can't make the grey hair turn black, but of course, prevent further greying! The causes of premature greying of hair are several. Here we have listed out a few common causes. Heredity is a major reason for hair greying Excessive use of tobacco and smoking Chronic emotional stress or psychological worries Lack of nutrients such as vitamins, iron, copper and iodine in the diet Medical conditions such as anemia, hypothyroidism, tuberous sclerosis or neurofibromatosis Home Remedies: 1. Add the curry leaves to the oil and boil it for 6 to 8 minutes, or till the leaves turn black. Remove from flame and let it cool. Strain the oil in a container and massage your scalp and hair with this oil 3 to 4 times per week before going to bed. Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo in the morning. 2. Turn the fenugreek seeds to a smooth powder and keep aside. Heat the oil and add the amla pieces to it, let it boil for 5 to 6 minutes, add the fenugreek powder to the oil, let it boil for another minute and remove from flame. Let it cool and strain the oil, apply on scalp and hair before going to bed. Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo in the morning. 3. Mix onion and lemon juice in a glass bowl and apply on scalp and hair evenly. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash off with a mild herbal shampoo. Repeat it 4 to 5 times a week for 2 weeks. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Lycopodium 200/ once daily, Acid Phos. 200/ once daily and Weisbaden 200/ twice daily – all of them for 1 month. And a multivitamin - A to Z/ 1 cap. daily once for 1 month (as deficiency of zinc, copper and selenium can also cause premature greying). Use Schwabe's Arnica Shampoo and Hair Growth Oil. Revert me back.
