The inflammation of the optic nerve and other nerves that carry information from the eye to the brain is known as optic neuritis. Signs and symptoms of this disorder are pain and temporary vision loss.
HOW IS OPTIC NEURITIS DIAGNOSED?
An eye exam and an examination known as ophthalmoscopy to check the eye and vision would be carried out by an ophthalmologist. A pupillary light reaction test to check the response of the eye to bright light could also be performed. Other tests such as blood test and MRI scans might be performed to rule out any other disorders.
HOW IS OPTIC NEURITIS TREATED?
The treatment of the condition may be done with the intravenous administration of steroids as well as drugs that will help in preventing multiple sclerosis in the brain that may be caused due to brain lesions.
DID YOU KNOW?
Most people are able to regain their normal vision within a year after this disorder.
