Things You Must Keep in Mind Before Opting IVF or Surrogacy

Certified IVF Specialist, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Ghaziabad
Things You Must Keep in Mind Before Opting IVF or Surrogacy

IVF (in vitro fertilisation) and surrogacy are alternative methods of having a baby and can be resorted to when a couple cannot conceive the natural way. There are three things you must keep in mind before making a choice between IVF or surrogacy:

Surrogacy is opted for when the woman is unable to conceive by natural means and when there's no possibility of her getting pregnant whatsoever. Surrogacy can be of two types- full surrogacy and partial surrogacy. On the other hand, IVF works towards the treatment of infertility in one or both the partners, enabling the woman partner to conceive the child. IVF involves the fertilisation of a woman's eggs by the sperm of the intended father in a laboratory dish. The developed embryo (or fertilised egg) is then implanted in the woman's uterus.

Risks of surrogacy include multiple births, ectopic pregnancy (implantation of the fertilised egg in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus, leading to miscarriage) and birth defects in the child, to name a few. As for risks associated with IVF, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (swollen and painful ovaries), multiple births, ectopic pregnancy and stress can take place if IVF is opted for.
Surrogacy requires the fulfilment of complex legal processes, such as determining eligibility, matching profiles of surrogates with intended parents, finding of a potential surrogate and more, which require proper legal counselling. Besides the cost of surrogacy in India is higher than IVF.

IVF does not involve any such processes and is easier to carry out. The low cost of IVF in comparison to surrogacy makes it a much more viable option. Based on these factors, you can make the choice of a procedure that is best suited for you.

Hi i am 30 years old I have early periods around 4 months. Why and what should I do ?

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
Polymenorrhea is the medical term for cycles with intervals of 21 days or fewer. Irregular menstruation is where there is variation in menstrual cycle length of more than approximately eight days for a woman. The normal period length the average length of the cycle is 28 days and this is the length often used in textbooks. Normal menstrual cycle length can be anyway from 21 to 35 days. If your cycle length is within this range, and that is what you have every month, then that is what is normal for you. Causes of polymenorrhea the causes of polymenorrhea overlap with many of the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding or those of irregular periods. Common, simple causes include stress, excessive exercise, medications or perimenopause. More serious causes include diseases of the pelvic organs especially those with hormonal disturbances like polycystic ovarian disease. Consul homeopath.

She is indulge in masturbation since she was a child may be 12 yrs, she used to masturbate 3-5 times in a week, as she grown up she tried not to do it bt still she did it for 1-2 time in a month, now she is 22 years old and she'll worried about the consequences, will she be able to get pregnant?

DSTD,MBBS
Sexologist, Howrah
There are v little awareness about female masterbation. Yes, an woman can masterbate to get sexual pleasure. She should be concern about the following things 1- infection- don't use any object not ment for this. Clean wash your hand before the act. Vaginal tract is v prone to infection. Try to go to toilet after the act. 2-injury- don't get so excited or use any hard/sharp object. Vaginal wall is delicate inside- you may bleed. 3-frequency- doing daily or making it a habit is bad for future sexual health. 2-3 per month is ok.

My wife (24 years) is suffering from pcos and get pregnant by clomid and other injection (without ivf). Now she is 3 months pregnant, and regularly take progesterone hormones tablets. My questions are: 1. Still have any chances of miscarriage after 3 months in pcos? 2. What types of vaccines and immunization required in pregnancy and when, in india? 3. Is it safe to have sex in this case or when it is safe? 4. Any special guidance or precaution in this case. Thanks rajesh.

Dear, once your wife is pregnant and she is already 3 months through so the pregnancy behaves like pretty much any other pregnancy but as every human body is different therefore she will require medications as per her body needs. Which is to be examined in person by a gynaecologist

We are trying for baby from 9 months .few days before my wife did her sonography. .it is normal. My semen report is also normal .one doctor suggest us to do the HSG hysterosalpingogram test. I want to ask that is this test is necessary or is there any options available?

PhD Human Genetics
Sexologist,
The doctor must have suggested it because (s) she thought it was necessary. Without a suspected cause they would not order hsg (xrays) as frequently as they do us scans. The test would let the doctor understand if the uterus and tubes are normal in size, shape, and filling and there is no evidence of kinkiness in the tubes and so on. I think you should follow the doc's advice.

My periods is a bit irregular. Hoe can I calculate my ovulation and fertile dates?

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
The luteinizing hormone (lh) is consistently detected in your urine. There is an increase in presence 24 to 48 hours prior to ovulation. An ovulation predictor kit detects this increase and lets you know that you are ovulating. As ovulation predictor kits help you identify and confirm when you are ovulating, you should record these dates on your calendar. Whether you look for patterns on the calendar or not, the information will be helpful for a fertility specialist if you find yourself encountering problems when trying to conceive. Charting your cycle? even though your cycle is irregular, it is good to track it on a calendar for a few reasons. First, you may notice some clues that give you a pattern. Second, if you experience fertility problems, the data from your tracking efforts is valuable information to share with your gynecologist or fertility specialist. Cervical mucus? your cervical mucus changes when you ovulate. Cervical mucous during the first few days after your menstrual cycle will be dry. Your cervical mucus will begin to increase. As you approach ovulation, the cervical mucus will be plentiful, slippery, clear, and stretchy. Many women compare the consistency to that of egg whites. Basal body temperatures? your body temperature fluctuates with the onset of ovulation. If you are tracking your basal body temperature, you will find a spike in temperature as ovulation occurs. This lets you know that ovulation is occurring.

Plz don't go for such hormones on your own. Kindly advising to use Condoms for your Husband during Intercourse. Or please prefer to avoid relations between 10 th to 18th days og your regular menstrual cycle to avoid pregnanacy.
