Mr. Lybrate-user. You are weighing more for your age and height and may be the reason for early onset of diabetes at an age of 24. Obesity causes insulin resistance, so you need to concentrate more on your weight reduction with some physical activity. In allopathy you need to take meds to control diabetes. To bring sugar levels to normal. 2/3of the sugar levels should be controlled by physical activity and for remaining 1/3 you need to take medication. This usually lessens the long term complications of the diabetes, reduced dose of the drugs and prevent early drug resistance. You need regular physician's care for your present health status. Contact if need further assistance.

Beer has a lot of sugar, but if your sugar is under control and you can't quit then have it once in 15 days. But then decrease other sugar containing products to compensate.

What do you mean by" thyroid 6" if one is having hypothyroidism then weight will invariably increase. But if treatment is on and tsh levels have become normal then weight reduction is possible by diet restriction and regular exercise. Reducing 3 to 5 kg may be tough. 2 to 3 kg reduction is possible by reducing daily intake by 550 cal.

I am a Diabetic patient, so please suggest me how will I get cure. Please please please.
Hye, thanks for the query. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - you need to start medication initially to bring down sugar levels. The sugar levels will fluctuate depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress levels and activity levels. You have to try and manage a balanced carb intake. Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. You have to eat 3 main and 3 mid meals. Your diet must include whole grains, seasonal fruits, vegetables, small amounts of nuts and dairy and pulses or dals or lean meats like chicken or fish and egg. Starchy vegetables need to be planned into the diet. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Avoid exercise if sugar levels are above 250mg/dl. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

Diabetes - Factors That Put You At Risk!

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Diabetes - Factors That Put You At Risk!

Type 1 diabetes is commonly referred to as juvenile diabetes and is mostly witnessed among young people. It can also occur in adults. In this condition, the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or completely stops producing insulin. The immune system, which saves the body from foreign microbes, attacks the cells that are responsible for producing insulin. The treatment methods include taking insulin shots, oral insulin intake, taking healthy diet, increased physical activity and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Type 2 diabetes is a condition wherein the body refuses to use insulin in order to carry glucose to each and every cell of the body. The pancreas try to produce more insulin in order to counter the condition but soon give up due to an increased blood pressure. The treatment plan includes medication, making lifestyle changes, and controlling blood-sugar and cholesterol levels.

Gestational diabetes is observed in many pregnant women. The hormones produced during pregnancy can block insulin to be used by the body. While insulin resistance is common during pregnancy, failure of the pancreas to fill in the additional insulin in the body can result in gestational diabetes. Women who are overweight are more likely to develop this condition. Although gestational diabetes goes automatically after the baby is born, it often recurs in the form of type 2 diabetes in a later stage of life.

Risk factors for diabetes

  1. Weight: Being overweight is a primary risk factor for diabetes. An increased amount of adipose tissue increases the risk of insulin resistance by the body. It is therefore essential to shed as much weight as one can to avoid diabetes.
  2. Inactivity: Immobility increases the risk of diabetes in a person. It stacks up glucose in the body, making it difficult for the body to use glucose and convert it into energy. A daily routine which is devoid of physical activity ensures fat storage in the body, which can turn into type 2 diabetes.
  3. Family history: Diabetes, especially type 2, is closely linked with family history. If a person has diabetes, it is very likely that his immediate family or extended family has a history of diabetes.
  4. Ethnicity: African-Americans, people from the Indian subcontinent, Latinos, etc., are more likely to suffer from diabetes compared to their American or European counterparts. Lifestyle and eating habits are the major reasons for diabetes in these races.
  5. Age: Age has a direct correlation with diabetes. The age group of 45–65 is considered to be more diabetes-prone. Inactivity, immobility, and an increase of sugar intake are some of the primary reasons for developing diabetes in this age group.

I am 18 years old and I am suffering from diabetes. Is there any possibility to completely cure diabetes in this age.

I am 18 years old and I am suffering from diabetes. Is there any possibility to completely cure diabetes in this age.
Hi, There has been no successful treatment found yet to completely cure a patient of Diabetes. But with good diet, exercise and medication it can be controlled optimally. Good diabetic control leads to less complications of heart, nerves, eyes, kidneys etc. In your case, you are suffering with Type 1 diabetes. Your pancreas are not producing insulin. Hence only option is to give insulin from outside. Stopping your insulin injections will lead to devastating effects, so please continue with your insulin injections and be brave to face the challenges of your condition. I wish you good luck Thank you.

Mr. Lybrate-user kumar, this could be simple viral fever, which is invariably self limiting, does not need any major treatment. What is required is a good rest, good hydration with oral rehydraton solution, about one and half liter a day and some fever reducing tablets. The condition improves in 3 to 4 days.

Mr. lybrate-user, 340 mg of blood glucose is very high level and it is dangerous too. If not well treated can lead to severe complications of diabetes. Tablet Jalra (Vildagliptin 50 mg) is a good drug used to treat diabetes Type 2. Normally it is very well tolerated. As regards the second name mentioned, I am not aware as to what is (or are) the ingredients. It will be good if you give following details like fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, dietary pattern & extent of daily exercise, plus weight and height. Then I will be able to guide. Thanks.

You need to keep a tab on your sugar levels regularly. Also increase the intake of veggies, salads, whole grain cereals like jowar, bajra, oats, etc and avoid foods high in sugars such as sweets, rice, potato, etc. Take medications on time and ensure you eat small potions at regular intervals. Never skip any meal.

pulmocare is a protein supplement ,like any other protein powder. It cannot give strength to your lungs. It is recommended only for those people who have poor appetite and food (protein ) intake. try having balanced diet with milk, dal, soyabean, eggs etc. It is not sugar free, and not recommended for diabetic patients. do regular exercise and pranayam to improve lung power.
