Polymicrogyria is a cortical malformation in which there is an excessive growth of small, partly fused convolutions on the surface of the brain. On the surface of the brain, there are a number of ridges or folds called gyri. In case of people affected with polymicrogyria, too many folds develop on the brain, which are relatively smaller. This disorder is normally unilateral as it affects only one part of the brain. It can cause serious intellectual disability, movement problems and seizures, which are difficult to control through medication.
HOW IS POLYCYTHEMIA VERA DIAGNOSED?
The name of this condition literally means many (poly-) small (micro-) folds (-gyria) on the surface of the brain.
