Many adult men today tremble when they hear these two words - erectile dysfunction. This is a physical inefficiency in the male sexual organ that plagues many males worldwide. Men with erectile dysfunction are unable to maintain their erections long enough for sexual intercourse, or cannot establish them at all. When diagnosed with such problems, these men lose their confidence and may affect their partners' as well. Concerned men should be wary of the various causes that may manifest this frequent issue.

Here are some of the causes that are known today for causing erectile dysfunction:

* Lifestyle
Bad lifestyles are often associated with erectile dysfunction. Actions like smoking and excessive drinking are the most common causes of impotence, as well as poor sleeping habits. These lifestyles choices can lead to problems because they might lead to lowered levels of hormones or imbalance. This effect can eventually lead to erectile dysfunction, as your body lacks the sufficient amounts that are required for sexual activity.

* Psychological
Psychological disorders are known as some of the main causes for erectile dysfunction. Anxieties, stress, and any other negative feelings can cause impotence. Studies have shown that such feelings will overpower the positive desires in the subconscious, leading to the dysfunction. This is why some companies encourage their employees to take vacations during the year. These companies understand how stress and anxiety can affect the performance that strenuous work has on their workers.

* Age
Older age can also lead to erectile dysfunction. As you grow older, some of your organs may deteriorate as well, causing certain bodily functions to become less efficient than they used to be. As men age, their testosterone levels will decrease, making it harder for the body to maintain an erection. There are, however, alternative ways in maintaining the testosterone levels. You may do this by exercising regularly, eating more meat, and having sexual intercourse regularly.

* Drugs and Medications
Drugs are also culprits in causing impotence. While certain drugs are necessary in treating other symptoms or disorders you may have, they can actually increase your chances forit. Some of these drugs will greatly affect your nerves, blood circulation, and even your hormone levels. All these factors are crucial when it comes to maintaining your erection. Illicit drugs like cocaine, meth, and others that contain harmful substances will also affect your hormones and greatly increase the chances of having it.
