Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly referred to as diabetes, is a metabolic disorder in which your blood glucose or blood sugar level becomes too high.
Diabetes Mellitus is generally of two types -
1. Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus or Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus- It happens when your immune system destroys cells in your pancreas called beta cells which produces insulin as a result pancreas produces little or no insulin.
2. Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus - It is a chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose).If you have type 2 diabetes your body does not use insulin properly which is called insulin resistance.
