Hello everyone!

I am Dr. Himanshu Shekhar. I am the medical director for SCI International Hospital, Greater Kailash, New Delhi. As well as I am a consultant in the internal medicine department. I would like to discuss the cases which we are getting now. Nowadays we are getting a lot of tropical disease patients. We have to be very careful after the rains and showers in Delhi especially when we know of the sewage system of Delhi. Nowadays we get a lot of patients with high fever, shivering, temperature, body pain, pain all over the body joint etc. So in this scenario when we do the elementary blood test and generally these are tropical disease specially gastroenteritis, typhoid and we are also getting a lot of viral fever. But simple precaution can prevent all these things.

Now, what are the simple precautions? We know that in Delhi water is a big problem. If you are very careful with the water you drink, boiled water or you drink RO water or filter water, we can prevent almost 80% of all the problems. Until and unless you are careless then you fall into all these diseases and you end up in the hospital. It is a financial burden as well. As the viral problem is concerned we know that specially September to November is considered deadly seasons in Delhi because of the D word Dengue. But in the last few years, we have seen good initiatives by the government where we have tried to control it. But still, there are some precautions which we need to take as an individual.

Now, what are the precautions? There should be no stagnant water around us where we live or where we work. Secondly, during daytime, we should always try to wear full sleeve shirts. All preventions of mosquitoes should be taken. There are different ways to take care of mosquitoes- fogging can be done on a regular basis in society or in the home or the workplace. So these are very common things which help us to treat ourselves or to prevent the disease before it strikes. If this is the habit we incorporate in ourselves I think we will have a very healthy India very soon.

Thank you!
