Hello,

I am Dr. Manisha Arora. Today we are going to talk about total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is a procedure in which the uterus is removed. The need to remove the uterus arises in certain condition like fibroids in uterus, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts or sometime in abnormal uterine bleeding. Usually uterus is normally removed in 2 routes. Either it can be removed abdominally or vaginally.

But nowadays we prefer to remove the uterus by total laparoscopic hysterectomy. This is a procedure in which we introduce a laparoscope near the umbilicus. It is 1 cm incision. 2 or 3 more incisions are required around the operating area for manipulation and for insertion of instruments. The uterus is removed successively. It is removed or freed from its attachments and then it is successfully removed. Its blood vascularity are secured and usually the uterus is delivered vaginally. This is a safe procedure. The patient goes home early.

Patient is usually mobile on the first day of the surgery and can easily move around in her room on the second day of the surgery. On the third day we remove the catheter and the patient can go home on the day 3 of the surgery. Within 5 to 7 days the patient can get back to her routine and normal work. By this procedure patient are more comfortable. There are less complication to the patient and we are able to do a better recovery for the patient. So laparoscopic surgery is better. Total laparoscopic hysterectomy is a very safe procedure for the patient for the removal of the uterus.
