Thus, for these different variations of cough, different homeopathic treatments are administered. Here is a list of some of the common types of treatments for curing deep chest cough-

When fever is accompanied with cough and cold, it is important to treat all three symptoms, lest it might usher in a more serious disease. Homeopathy is often described as a holistic form of treatment. Through the medicines, the personality of the patient can be determined. 2. Recurrent tonsillitis: This is a form of acute tonsillitis which repeats itself over a year.

Causes: Tonsils prevent various virus and bacteria from entering the body through the mouth by producing antibodies. The tonsils, however, may become vulnerable to these infections. A virus that causes common cold or the bacteria that causes strep throat may result in tonsillitis. The most common cause of this disorder is the strep bacteria. School going children are especially vulnerable to this disorder because they are most prone to various infections.

The various viruses that may cause tonsillitis are:

Why Chose Homeopathy For Treating Common Ailments?

We all have used homeopathy as a cure, and we know from experience that it works. This complementary modality of healing works on the principle of ‘like kills like’. All homeopathic medicines are derived from natural sources and are then diluted and ‘potentized’ to make them safe.

Here are a few common ailments that respond very well to homoeopathic medicines:

  1. Common Cold - There are homeopathic remedies for common cold and hay fever. They are very effective when there is a watery, and burning nasal discharge from the nose. Some of the homeopathic medicines are also excellent cures for influenza. They are useful in treating body aches that accompany fever.

  2. Shock and Trauma From Injury - Homeoapthic medicines are the best for trauma due to injuries and is an excellent first aid. They also help to reduce pain and speeds up the healing process.

  3. A Sore Throat - Homeopathic medicines help during the onset of a sore throat and curing tonsillitis.

  4. Nerve Problems - Homeopathic medicines are very effective in curing injuries to the nerves or to parts of the body rich with them, like the back. They are especially good for treating shooting pains.

  5. Psychiatric Ailments - Homeopathic medicines are most effective in treating acute grief, anxiety, and depression, especially due to loss of a loved one.

  6. Cramps - Homeopathic medicines are most effective remedy for cramps, including menstrual cramps.

  7. Indigestion - Homeopathic medicines effectively treat indigestion. They are very effective in relieving symptoms of flatulence, constipation/diarrhoea and heartburn. They are extremely useful for getting rid of gas after food.

Homeopathic medicines are very effective for people suffering from sprains and strains. They are especially useful when the person suffers from more pain when he starts moving after resting. They can also treat symptoms of arthritis and flu.

Remember to take these medicines in the 6th or 30th potency only. If you are suffering from minor pain or discomfort, you should take the medicine 3 times a day but if the discomfort is severe, you can take the medicine every 1 to 3 hours, tapering off later.

If you do not observe at least some improvement even after 24 hours of taking the medicine, it probably is the wrong one. Consider taking another medicine or better still, consult a trained homoeopathic doctor. It is also best if you treat yourself for non-threatening acute conditions only and go for professional care for chronic conditions.

Gale Ke Rog!

Rakesh Roshan Has Early Stage Throat Cancer - How Can You Stay Safe?

MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Rakesh Roshan Has Early Stage Throat Cancer - How Can You Stay Safe?

In a shocking post on Instagram, Hrithik Roshan revealed how his father, the veteran actor Rakesh Roshan, has been diagnosed with early-stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat or in simple terms throat cancer.

For someone who dedicatedly takes care of his health, this news came in as a startling reminder of the possibility that such a condition can happen to anyone anytime.

What is Early Stage Throat Cancer?

Throat cancer refers to cancerous tumours that typically affect the voice box, vocal cord, tonsils and oropharynx. Early stage throat cancer ranges from stage I to stage III. The good thing is that it is curable only if diagnosed early. Treatment generally involves surgery, radiation therapy or a combination of both.

Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common form of throat cancer where the disease develops on the cells lining the wall of the throat.

What are the Major Risks Leading to Throat Cancer?

Certain factors heighten the possible occurrence of throat cancer like:

What are the Possible Signs of Throat Cancer?

Symptoms of early-stage throat cancer often tend to merge with signs of common infection. However, if any of the following symptoms continue to persist, one should seek urgent medical assistance.

  1. Dysphagia
  2. A sore throat
  3. Sudden weight loss
  4. The abrupt change in voice
  5. A continuous cough including the presence of blood
  6. The constant need to clear throat
  7. Wheezing
  8. Ear pain

Treatment Options

Following the identification of the disease, the stage of the cancer is determined, which helps in deciding treatment options.

  • Radiation - Radiation involves emission of high-energy beams from X-rays or protons that directly eliminate cancer cells. For the initial stages, this is an extremely effective way of treatment.
  • Surgery - Surgery is referred to when the cancer cells are limited to the vocal cords. Here endoscopy is used to scrape off the infected portion. In situations where the voice box is infected, doctors try to save as much area of the voice box that they can. This helps in retaining the patient’s ability to speak and breathe normally. For extensive tumours, it becomes necessary to surgically remove the entire voice box and speech has to be restored using speech therapy.
  • Chemotherapy - Chemotherapy works by injecting drugs into the bloodstream. It is prescribed together with radiation to treat cancer cells. It, however, leaves room for long-term side effects and the consequences must be discussed thoroughly with the physician.

Prevention Measures

There are no substantial ways to prevent throat cancer. However, you can minimize its possibility by incorporating certain healthy practices -

  1. Quit smoking and use of tobacco
  2. Limiting alcohol intake
  3. Following a balanced and healthy diet
  4. Protecting oneself from HPV
  5. Regularly going for preventive health checkups

As the saying goes ‘prevention is better than cure,’ it is necessary to follow a healthy lifestyle. With proper treatment during initial stages, there are positive chances of winning over the disease.

Oral Cancer - Know Signs Of It!

Oral cancer is the uncontrollable growth of cells called tumors that invade and damage the tissues surrounding it in or around the mouth. Oral cancer, like all other types of cancer, is life threatening if not diagnosed and treated in the early stages. There are eight types of oral cancer namely cancer in the throat, sinuses, hard and soft palate, floor of the mouth, gums, cheeks, tongue and lips. Dentists are usually the first ones to notice and detect the signs and symptoms of oral cancer. This condition is also known as oral cavity cancer. The risk factors and symptoms of oral cancer are mentioned below.

Symptoms:

The symptoms of oral cancer, especially in the first stages, seem non- threatening and similar to common oral problems. However, visiting the doctor is mandatory to rule out cancer as an option. If you suffer from one or more of the following symptoms, visit your dentist immediately.

1. Thickenings and swellings, lumps or bumps, crusts, eroded areas or rough spots on the lips, gums or surrounding regions inside or around the mouth.

2. Bleeding in the mouth that is unexplainable.

3.  Persistent sores near and around the mouth or throat that bleed easily and may take more than two weeks to heal.

4. Unexplained numbness or pain and tenderness in the mouth, throat or face.

5. Development of patches which are usually speckled, red or white in the mouth.

6. Sudden weight loss.

7. Excruciating pain in your ear.

8. Loose teeth.

9. Difficulty in swallowing.

10. Lumps in your neck.

11. Stiffness or pain in your jaw.

12. Pain in your tongue.

13. Dentures that fit poorly.

Risk factor:

Men above 50 years of age face the greatest risk of developing oral cancer. Women are at a much lower risk of developing oral cancer than men.

The following factors increase your risk of developing oral cancer-

1. Smoking cigarettes, cigars or pipes

2. Snuff, dips or chewing tobacco

3. Consumption of alcohol excessively

4. History of oral or other types of cancer in the family

5. Chronic sun exposure, especially facial exposure

6. Sexually transmitted virus such as HPV

7. Diagnosed of oral cancer previously.

What Is Influenza ?

What Is Influenza ?

What is influenza?

Influenza is a virus which causes cough or sore throat accompanied by a fever. This virus is spread from person-to-person through saliva and mucus droplets often formed when coughing or sneezing. These droplets can also contaminate surfaces frequently touched, such as doorknobs, doors, and countertops. Sharing items like mobile and laptops can also spread the virus.

Types:

Three types of flu viruses exist
-Influenza 1
-Influenza 2
-Influenza 3

Types A and B viruses cause seasonal epidemics that hit the United States and Europe virtually every winter. The type C influenza virus causes mild respiratory illness and is not responsible for outbreaks.

Causes:

Flu viruses travel through the air in droplets when someone with the infection coughs, sneezes or talks. You can inhale the droplets directly, or you can pick up the germs from an object — such as a telephone or computer keyboard — and then transfer them to your eyes, nose or mouth.

People with the virus are likely contagious from the day or so before symptoms first appear until about five days after symptoms begin, though sometimes people are contagious for as long as 10 days after symptoms appear. Children and people with weakened immune systems may be contagious for a slightly longer time.

Influenza viruses are constantly changing, with new strains appearing regularly. If you've had influenza in the past, your body has already made antibodies to fight that particular strain of the virus. If future influenza viruses are similar to those you've encountered before, either by having the disease or by vaccination, those antibodies may prevent infection or lessen its severity.

But antibodies against flu viruses you've encountered in the past can't protect you from new influenza subtypes that can be very different immunologically from what you had before.

Symptoms:

Confusing flu with a bad cold is common. Flu and cold symptoms may both include a runny/blocked nose, sore throat, and cough.

To help you tell them apart, below are some symptoms of flu that are different from a heavy cold:

-high temperature
-cold sweats and shivers
-headache
-aching joints and limbs
-fatigue, feeling exhausted

*Early symptoms of flu:

Often, fatigue is one of the earliest signs of flu and cold. With flu, the fatigue is often more extreme. Other early symptoms can include cough, sore throat, fever, body ache, chills, and gastrointestinal Changes.

Diagnosis:

Since the symptoms of an influenza infection are different from the common cold, the diagnosis can be made fairly quickly. Your doctor will be able to tell that you have the flu if you have at least some or most of these symptoms:

  • aches and pains everywhere, especially in the back and legs

  • bad headache

  • burning sensation in the chest

  • dry cough at first, then bringing up sputum

  • high fever

  • nausea and possible vomiting

  • sore throat

  • runny or stuffy nose

Role Of Homeopathy In Influenza:

It is evident that homeopathic medicines provide very good results in treating as well as preventing the disease called flu or influenza. ... Some of the important flu remedies are Aconite, Belladona, Bryonia, Rhus Toxicodendron, Gelsemium etc. It should be noted that patients should avoid self medication.

Foods to eat:

Food is what gives your body the energy and nutrients it needs to function. Such effects are equally vital when you have the flu. Still, it’s all about eating the right foods for your condition.

Consider eating the following foods when you have the flu.

1. Broth
Whether you prefer chicken, beef, or vegetable, broth is one of the best things you can eat when you have the flu. You can eat it as soon as your symptoms begin and until you have fully recovered.

Broth helps prevent dehydration, and the warm elements can help soothe a sore throat and relieve congestion.

2. Chicken soup
Chicken soup combines the benefits of broth along with additional ingredients. Cut-up chicken provides your body with iron and protein, and you’ll also gain nutrients from carrots, herbs, and celery.

You can eat chicken soup throughout the duration of the flu to help keep you hydrated and satiated; just be sure to watch the salt content.

3. Garlic
While you might think of garlic as a food-flavoring agent, it’s actually been used in alternative medicine for a variety of ailments for centuries. One study of garlic supplements in adults with the flu found enhanced immunity and reduced symptom severity.

You don’t necessarily have to take supplements, though. Eating raw garlic may also be beneficial. Due to the immune-enhancing effects, consider eating garlic at the first signs of the flu.

4. Yogurt
Yogurt with live cultures not only can help soothe a sore throat but can also boost your immune system, according to a study of mice reported in the journal International Immunopharmacology. Yogurt also contains protein.

You can eat yogurt while your throat is sore, but just be sure to choose whole yogurts without any added sugars.

5. Vitamin C–containing fruits
Vitamin C is an important nutrient to help boost your immune system, which is especially important when you’re sick. While supplements can help, your body can absorb nutrients like vitamin C more effectively from the foods you eat.

Consider snacking on vitamin C–rich fruits while you have the flu. Some fruits high in vitamin C include strawberries, tomatoes, and citrus fruits.

6. Leafy greens
Spinach, kale, and other leafy greens can also help boost your immune system when you have the flu. They have both vitamin C and vitamin E, another immune-enhancing nutrient.

Consider combining leafy greens with fruit in a smoothie, or eat them raw with a drizzle of lemon and olive oil. It’s best to eat these immune-boosting foods throughout the duration of your illness.

7. Broccoli
Broccoli is a nutrient powerhouse that can benefit your body when you have the flu. Eating just one serving will provide immune-boosting vitamins C and E, along with calcium and fiber.

Consider eating broccoli when your appetite returns toward the middle or end of the flu. You can also eat broccoli soup; just remember to check the sodium content.

8. Oatmeal
When you’re sick, a hot bowl of oatmeal can be a soothing, nutritious food choice. Oatmeal, like other whole grains, is also a natural source of immune-boosting vitamin E. It also contains polyphenol antioxidants as well as immune-strengthening beta-glucan fiber.

Choose whole oats for the most benefits.

9. Spices
Toward the end of the flu, you might have increased sinus and chest congestion. Certain spices, such as pepper and horseradish, can help break up congestion so you can breathe better. However, avoid spicy foods when you have a sore throat.

Choose whole oats for the most benefits.

9. Spices
Toward the end of the flu, you might have increased sinus and chest congestion. Certain spices, such as pepper and horseradish, can help break up congestion so you can breathe better. However, avoid spicy foods when you have a sore throat.
