First, you want to make sure you brush twice a day and floss once a day it helps in reducing the bacterial load in oral cavity. 

The plaque and tartar leads to gum disease, or periodontitis. Gum disease leads to inflammation in the body, which can be harmful on its own, as well as damage to gum tissue, so taking the proper steps to care for your oral health is critical.

Also, make sure to visit your dentist at least once every six months for a regular checkup and cleaning. 

The dentist  remove plaque and tartar, assess the health of your mouth, and recommend any additional treatments that may be necessary to keep you in optimal shape.
