Things You Should Know About Mental Health!

Hello,

 My name is Prof Dr. Yusuf Abdullah Matcheswalla. I practice psychiatry since the last 30-35 years. I graduated and post graduated from the most prestigious Grant Government medical college and JJ group of hospital where I have been fortunate enough to later on join as a faculty and today I am a professor of psychiatry at the Grant Government medical college and head of the psychiatry unit to the government run Gokul Das Tejpal hospital where we have the state of the art psychiatric as well as de-addiction facilities. The de-addiction facility that we have we are running is recognised by the Maharashtra government as well as we are in the process of getting recognition from the central government and just 2 days back my unit was awarded by the Maharashtra government department of social welfare as the best de-addiction and rehabilitation centre.

Apart from the de addiction, I have been practicing general psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, sexual psycho sexual problems, geriatric psychiatry; all all kinds of plethora of psychiatry cases right from depression to schizophrenia to bipolar mood disorders I had established one of the best psychiatric unit in private sector at Masina hospital, Byculla where I have worked for more than 28 years and last year I retired from there. Currently, I am my having my consultation outpatient at the renowned global hospital which is at Parel near KEM hospital where I am available throughout the evening till late in the night. Every morning I am available at the Grant Government medical college, GT hospital where we see patients absolutely free and even treatment is given for them. I take a lot of part in awareness programs, taking psychiatry to the masses, organising mental health check up programs, going to schools and colleges and getting awareness about depression, suicide, drug abuse and the latest addiction which is really destroying our young generation that is internet and mobile addiction.

I also take a lot of lectures for the medical and para medical professionals all over the country all over the world. Psychiatry is the branch which has grown fastest in the last 30 years ever since we have joined and today touch wood we have the best of psychiatric facilities available in our country and even the remote village can access for quality psychiatry treatment. Practically every district and every taluka place as a psychiatrist or a visiting psychiatrist available over there. Only thing is the stigma has to go away and people need to recognise what they are going through because depression is becoming a number one killer and India is becoming a capital of depression and of suicide which means the maximum suicides all over the world are committed by in India and maximum psychiatric problems specially depression is now found in our country.

On one side we are blessed with wonderful facilities and the best of medications available but the on the other side we are going through enormous changes, tremendous changes in the last three decades. We are unable to cope up with it. The technology is moving very fast, the progress is happening too fast and too many complications in our lives are happening, life is not as simple as it used to be, so please stay healthy, stay peaceful, stay calm, stay positive.
