Survival Of Cancer Patients Treated With Mistletoe!

The research to vanquish cancer has yielded many results over the years. Chemotherapy and radiation do not always work. And that is why scientists continued with their trials and studies. And they chanced upon mistletoe as a likely cure for cancer.

What are Mistletoes?

These innocuous plants are actually parasites. They produce white coloured berries that are very poisonous to humans. But there are some nature-defying properties in these berries that led scientists to believe that they may be effective against cancer because cancer cells too violate the laws of natural cell growth.

Mistletoe Injections

It was later discovered that mistletoes are more effective in serum form. A person who is diagnosed with cancer is administered this serum intravenously. The injection is given into a vein or the pleural cavity or under the skin. The serum is prepared by diluting mistletoe extracts into water. The type and percentage of the extracts depend on the kind of tree that the mistletoe plant grew on, the season when it grew and of course the species of the mistletoes.

Survival of People treated with Mistletoe Injections

The trials to assess the efficacy of mistletoe injections were initially conducted only on animals. Later on, Europe roped in willing humans to undergo the trials. These people had been diagnosed with different types of cancer. To understand whether this mode of treatment is more fruitful than others, the volunteers were given separate forms of therapies and medications including placebos.

The results were studied by two teams of researchers. Whatever disagreements were prompted were them resolved with consensus.

The scientists carried out 22 trials.

The results were- Mistletoe extracts with no other treatment: the chances of survival were better than no treatment at all.

Mistletoe extracts vs placebo: no differences were observed in survival rates among people given mistletoe extracts or placebo.

Mistletoe extracts vs other forms of complementary cancer: Mistletoe extracts are as effective as other forms of complementary cancer treatments. Scientists pull out all stops to win the war against cancer. And mistletoe therapy is another weapon that can be yielded against this deadly disease.
