Hello,

I am Dr. Barkha Gupta, I am a senior speech therapist and audiologist. I have experience of more than 10 years. We are dealing with communication disorders and speech language-related problems. And many parents have problems related to, my child is not able to speak, my child delaying. So today I want to speak about speech and language delay and what are the important signs and how to cure it. First of all, I want to discuss what is speech and language delay, how I can say that my child is delayed compared to normal children. The things we have to see the developmental chart, the age of one year the child is able to speak minimum one full word like Mumma and papa. And at the age of two years generally, the child is able to communicate up to the level of the phrase like up to 50 words usually able to speak. And at the age of three years, the child is able to communicate properly, three-four words sentences, and able to communicate properly. If a child is not able to speak in this pattern then there is a warning sign and parents should be conscious about this. And they have to visit a certified and experienced speech-language pathologist and do a detailed assessment is required in that case, why the child is not able to speak and the speech therapist will rule out what are the reasons behind this. They have many reasons for simple speech and language delay, maybe due to the hearing impairment or may be due to the behavioural issues or may be due to some intellectual problem, there are many reasons. So the speech therapist will rule out what is the reason behind that and then there is a requirement to if the child has a problem and he will assess the things and then speech therapy is necessary to solve this problem. If the child will take speech therapy, the child will be able to cope up with all these things and he will follow the common developmental pattern and he will follow all the common developmental things. So, viewers, I will suggest you if the child has this kind of problem, go and do an assessment and take a view from certified and experienced speech therapist about this.

Thank you!
