Hi all,

I am Dr. Vijesh Addegod. Today, I want to tell you about the cervical spondylitis. What is cervical spondylitis, what is the treatment and what will be diagnosis? The patient who is having neck pain, so in this situation we diagnosis it could be due to muscular spasm, it could be due to ligament tear, it could be due to muscle tear. So most probably the patient who is complaining the neck pain, who is complaining the pain specifically when they do movement like right rotation, left rotation so in that situation we find the patient is having unbearable pain, the patient is having sometime burning sensation also. So when patient comes at my clinic so when I diagnose through the manual process, if I have a doubt the patient is having to suppose if the patient is having radiating pain, tingling and numbness specifically in that case when I do the manual procedure. The patient diagnosis is slipped disc it means the patient is having radiating pain due to nerve root compression. This is the one diagnosis, it also come in cervical spondylosis. Another cervical spondylosis diagnosis is if the patient is having degenerative changes in the cervical spine. Cervical spine means we have the neck. So in our neck there is 7 vertebrae.

After a certain age, patient is getting degenerative changes in the cervical vertebrae. So it comes also cervical spondylitis and another thing is that ki patient who is 60 years old or 50 years old so in that situation patient may have the spondylotic changes, patient may have cervical nerve root compression, patient may have the slipped disc also. So these all diagnosis comes into cervical region so the diagnosis as I told you the diagnosis depends on the age also, the diagnosis it depends on the muscular cause also. So the cervical spondylitis, it is a chronic degenerative change in the spine. It is due to degeneration of the vertebrae, it is due to loss of cervical curve also. So when the patient will come and the patient is having the complaint of cervical issues so first we diagnose, then according to the diagnosis we give the therapy sessions. If the patient is having unbearable pain, if the patient is having radiating, tingling sensation in the hand, so in that situation, first of all, we reduce the pain through the physical therapy session. So we most probably we give the therapy session, physical therapy session includes like we have some modalities like ultrasound we can give, like IFT we can give and I can able to treat the patient, I can set the vertebrae also with some manual processes that is called the manipulation.

I can give the manipulation also and I can treat the patient through the taping also, I can treat the patient through ultrasound with the IFT. The first precaution is we tell the patients don't do cervical rotation and don't do neck exercise till the recovery. Once the pain will subside, then I teach the patient all the strengthening exercise of the neck, strengthening exercise it includes isometric exercise. Isometric exercise means increase the intramuscular tension without any changing the length of the muscles. So we do specific exercise according to the diagnosis. We give the therapy also. After the 10 to 15 sessions, patient get good recovery. Then after the recovery patients, we take the feedback from the patient and patient tell yes doctor I got 70-80% improvement.
