Most of us take our thick hair for granted in our youth and fail to care for them. Not many notice the receding hairline or thinning of hair until it is too late. A hair restoration can bring back the fuller and thicker locks without any invasive surgical treatment. If hair loss bothers you, and you want a treatment that is safer, you can go for nonsurgical treatments.

The great advantage of these procedures is the increase in the density of hair that reverses your age clock back to 10 years. Non - surgical hair restoration treatments are becoming more popular as they are less invasive and safer than the surgical treatments.

There are three common FDA treatments performed for hair restoration: finasteride, minoxidil and low-level laser hair therapy.

  1. Finasteride: This is an oral treatment, and it is available only by prescription. This medicine can be incorporated into your daily routine as supplement. This medication blocks male-type baldness. If taken consistently, this can slowly improve hair thickness and regrowth of hair in the bald area wherever the hair follicles are still active. The overall success rate has been reported as 65 percent. Lesser than 2 percent people experience side effects. The general side effects include erectile dysfunction and low libido. In such cases, the patient will be advised to take half the dosage.
  2. Minoxidil: This is an over-the-counter medication and does not usually requires the prescription. Almost 50 percentage of the users experience regrowth of hair that is shortened due to damage or thicker hair in a few months when applied consistently. This treatment is available in liquid as well as in the form of foam. The liquid form is quite popular as it dries quickly. The patient should apply the liquid on the crown or affected areas once or twice a day.
  3. Laser Therapies:
    • Laser comb: There are many low-intensity laser therapies available that can be done by oneself. The most common being the comb type laser instrument. Most of these work similarly, and they only differ in the number of laser diodes they are built with. The user is directed to use the brush for 15- 20 minutes every day over the affected areas. These instruments cost between Rs. 5000 to Rs.50,000 depending on its effectiveness.
    • Helmet: Many hair loss studios have the laser helmet facility where they have 100 laser diodes built in the instruments. This treatment cost between Rs. 60,000 - Rs. 1,50,000 depending on the effectiveness of the machine. In this, the person is made to sit comfortably for 30minutes to an hour during the treatment. The person can watch TV, read books or rest while the treatment is going on.
