Natural Remedies For Cough!

Topic Image

One of the most irritating things for a person can be a persistent cough. Imagine someone giving a seminar or a presentation to a group/large audience. A presentation or seminar should be a continuous flow of information dissemination that captivates the audience and engages their brain on an intellectual and emotional level. If this flow is interrupted by periodic coughing in the person presenting, it will lead to a disconnection between the audience and the presentation. This doesn’t happen purposely or with intention. It’s just that the brain naturally tends to notice disturbances in things and eventually puts more emphasis on it. We are therefore unable to focus on the main objective at hand. Natural remedies for coughs in babies, kids, and adults help us take care of this irritation.

Coughing is one of the most common health problems. Why? Well, consider the cause of coughing. Coughing is an action that is signaled by the brain to the body, for casting out something that is there in the throat, that shouldn’t actually be there. But except for phlegm, aren’t our throats usually empty when we cough? At least that’s what it feels like. However, the truth is SOMETHING ALWAYS IS PRESENT in the throat. Most of the time, there is a very minute and small blockage or irritant in the upper passages of the airflow. Whatever this substance may be, our brain considers it as a foreign element and begins the coughing process to remove it out. Ayurvedic treatment for cold and cough helps take care of this root cause of the coughing.

Natural remedies for coughs in babies, kids, and adults can all be derived from Ayurveda. Thankfully, most of the medicines can be found in the kitchen.

Gargling is an amazing activity that helps not only to treat but prevent cough as well.

Ayurvedic treatment for cold and cough helps the body tackle the condition on its own. One word of caution to be noted here is that a cough shouldn’t always be considered as something of a threat. A cough is just a simple process of expelling an irritant from the respiratory passage. Now and then, it is necessary for the body to indulge in mild coughing, so as to remove the irritants from the body. However, chronic coughing and continuous bouts of coughing can be a sign of allergy or a viral/ bacterial infection and should be treated immediately.

Following are some causative factors of cough that you should keep in mind:-

  • Smoking
  • Dry air
  • Acid Reflux
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Infections
  • Certain medications developed for blood pressure and allergies

Unless the above factors are ruled out, blaming the weather for your cough would be pointless. That is what everyone does these days, don’t they? The moment anyone gets a cold, they blame the sudden change in the weather, never bothering to look at their own bodies that may be harbouring certain conditions that reduce their protection to the above causative agents.

Now, according to Ayurveda, coughs are caused by an excess of Pitta or Kapha dosha building up in the Bronchial tree. This leads to irritation and congestion in the mucous membranes in the upper respiratory system. This can be managed only by reducing the Pitta/Kapha in the area. The first thing to be done here is to find out what kind of cough it is. Yes, there are two types of cough, dry and wet. A dry cough is a result of inflammation or the presence of irritants in the air passages. A wet cough usually involves mucus in the throat and is usually a symptom of some other respiratory disease.

The best part about natural home remedies for coughs is that they are easy to make. Simple ingredients that can be found in the kitchen, form the basis of the Ayurvedic home remedies. These simple aspects provide amazing boosts to the body’s immunity and help treat cold and cough problems, effectively. That is the true power of Ayurveda. Using simplicity to take care of complex problems in the human body. Just the way, mother nature deals with the problems it encounters. Eventually, that is what humans will have to do for everything that they encounter.
