Nobody likes anything that is related to the term hospital. It’s bad enough that due to all the pollution and our stressful lifestyle, people nowadays consume more medicine than actual food. On top of that if a person has to go through the trouble and trauma of an operation, then that is really horrible. But nevertheless, if and when a person has to go through the elaborate procedure of a surgery then it is sensible to know what preparations are required to be made for aiding the procedure and for it to be a successful surgery.

There are a few basic steps that should be kept in mind before the operation.

  1. It is the duty of the patient and the family of the patient to get a clear picture of the entire operation procedure in full detail from the doctor. A thorough and detailed research has to be made regarding what exactly is the process that will be performed, the medications that will be prescribed before and after the surgery etc..
  2. The patient needs to have a clear idea about the doctor and the hospital. Feel free to enquire about the credibility of the doctor. Ask them about their previous cases and their success rate. It is also important to get a second opinion. Just to be sure. What has to be understood is that the patient should develop a cordial relation with the doctor. Only if there is a transparency between both, the operation will be successful.
  3. The patient needs to know the types of food that should be avoided before the procedure and this should be strictly followed. Certain kinds of food affect the body in a wrong way. It is advisable to avoid them if you want to avoid complications. If the patient has some addictions, needless to say, it has to stop. If the person has the habit of smoking then he needs to stop immediately. That will further the damage already done.
  4. Lastly, the patient needs to ask the doctor about post-operative care. The medicines that have to be taken before and after the procedure, the things that need to be avoided, the procedures that have to be followed for a proper recovery, are a few things that need to be asked, kept in mind and followed.

Lung surgery is a very complicated and complex procedure for both the doctor and the patient. Either be it the case of simply removing a nodule or be it removing the entire organ, proper precautions must be taken so that success is achieved.
