Low Sugar: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

Last Updated: Apr 10, 2024

What is the treatment?

Hypoglycemia

How is the treatment done?

Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia is something to be worried off. It may happen to diabetics affected people who consume medicine beyond the prescribed level because such medicines increase the insulin level in the body. Skipping meals, eating less than standardised amount and exercising more than the usual level may lead to low blood sugar levels as they do not have enough sugar to be used as fuel. Low blood sugar levels may even occur due to alcohol consumption during medication.

Blood sugar is nothing but glucose which comes from the food (like carbohydrates- rice, potato, bread, fruits etc) we take and provides us energy. After having food this glucose is absorbed into our blood stream and then travels to all body cells. Insulin, a hormone secreted from pancreas, acts upon the glucose to incur energy. Now if you eat more glucose than the required level then your body will store that excess amount of glucose in form of fat in your muscles or liver and you will also incur the problems of high blood sugar levels. Conversely your body cannot normally function without enough sugar. Thus again here comes the problem of low blood sugar levels.

Thus it is very important to maintain your sugar level above 70 milligrams per decilitre (mg/dL). You should instant care as soon as it falls below 70mg/dL as that will be considered as low blood sugar level.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Hypoglycemia being a mild disease at the primary stage can be treated easily by maintaining a healthy diet consisting a small amount of glucose rich food.

If you think that you are having the symptoms of low blood sugar then immediately have a blood test to check your sugar levels. If it is below 70mg/dL then you are having the issues of low blood sugar. Then contact your nearest doctor along with the blood test report and follow the dosage and instructions of your doctor.

Though consulting a physician is a mandatory step in this treatment, do not forget that medicines alone can never cure any of your health problems. So here to control low sugar a healthy diet is very important. For a healthy diet the gaps between two meals is expected to be the minimum. Besides a person affected by low sugar should always carry sugar or glucose tablets, fruit juice, or hard candy for emergency purpose. You can also obtain other form of treatment for low sugar such as glucose tablets. Glucose tablets help to elevate the blood sugar levels and helps to eliminate the problems that you are facing. You should also keep your blood sugar levels at a therapeutic level.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

There is no age restriction as far as the treatment for low blood sugar level is concerned. Patients of any age who are having a persistent blurred vision, losing of concentration or any other low sugar symptoms then must go through a blood test and doctor’s check up. There is no eligibility criteria as such for patients to seek treatment for low blood sugar. Anybody who does not have low blood sugar is not eligible for the treatment of shoulder pain. It should be remembered that low sugar may arise due to both improper diet and overdose of medicines. Hence, a proper diagnosis is necessary for an appropriate treatment to begin. Patients having referred sugar levels should be given treatment for the underlying cause that has led to low sugar level.

You should improve your diet and consume food which is rich in sugar such as sweetened cereals, white bread etc. you should frequently consume a supportive care or glucose solutions that help your body to streamline more and more sugar into your body. You should also consume ample amount of water at regular intervals and exercise as often as possible. You should also seek the help of yoga and medication to relieve your anxiety levels.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The complete recovery from this procedure is still undiscovered. You require a prolonged period or an indefinite period to recover. The blood sugar levels depends on how you take care of your body and once you start doing that by consuming high glucose quantities and maintaining a proper diet you might see that you are not facing most of the problems caused by low blood sugar. However due to overwork and overstress if you fail to maintain the post treatment guidelines then you will experience the problems again. The symptoms of this condition are suppressed as long as you maintain a good health and a proper diet.
