Life Style Modifications In A Patient Of GERD (Acid Reflux, Heartburn)!
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Stop smoking
• Elevate the head of your bed- Wood or cement block (6-9 inches) or wedge below mattress to raise the body from the waist up. Adding a pillow is not effective.
• Don’t lie down after meal (for 3 hours)
• Eat food slowly and chew thoroughly (put down your spoon or fork after every bite and pick it up again once you have chewed)
• Avoid foods- fatty and fried food, tomato sauce, alcohol, chocolate, garlic, onion, mint, caffeine, etc
• Avoid tight-fitting clothes
• Relaxation therapy- the technique to calm stress and anxiety (progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery)
