Lichen Planus - How Can Homeopathy Tackle It?

Lichen Planus is a non-contagious skin disorder causing irritation and swelling on the skin, nails, hair, and mucous membranes. On the skin, it often develops as purple-tinged, itchy, and flat bumps and it takes several weeks to develop. In the areas covered with mucous membranes such as vagina and mouth, Lichen Planus forms white lacy patches, at times with painful sores. 

 Mild cases of this condition are often managed by individuals at home. However, if the condition causes significant itching and pain, one may need to see a doctor.

Symptoms of Lichen Planus

The symptoms of Lichen Planus differ according to the affected parts. However, some common symptoms may include:

  • Itching.

  • White lacy patches on the tongue, lips, or in the mouth.

  • Hair loss.

  • Nail loss or damage.

  • Purplish flat bumps which usually develops on the ankle, inner forearm or wrist, and at times in genital areas.

  • Blisters, that break to form crusts or scabs.

  • Painful sores in the vagina or mouth. 

  • Change in the colour of the scalp.

Causes of Lichen Planus

The definitive causes of Lichen Planus are not still known but it can occur when the immune system attacks the mucous membrane or skin cells. However, the reason for this abnormal immune response is still unclear. There are some conditions and diseases which can trigger this skin disorder. These conditions may include flu vaccine, certain pain relievers, certain medications for arthritis, cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure, hepatitis C infection, etc.

Lichen Planus and Homeopathy
