Acne scars can be quite embarrassing for people suffering from acne problems, and it is just like wearing a badge on your skin proclaiming to the world that you battle acne night and day. The downside is that no makeup can completely conceal deep, pitted acne scars. Until now, the only option was to undergo laser treatment, but a new form of treatment has changed all of that.

PRP Treatment
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment is a new form of skin rejuvenation that helps to improv ethe acne scars effectively. The procedure is done by injecting a special gel-like substance into the acne scar regions which contains elements rich in growth factor which is prepared from your own blood.

A blood sample is taken from the patient and is spun in a centrifugation system to identify PRFM (Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix). After this, red and white blood cells are removed from the sample so that the Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix can be extracted. The PRFM is rich in growth factors that have regenerative properties and facilitate wound healing, reproduction of collagen and elastin at the area in which it is injected.

What should you expect during PRP treatment?
When you fix an appointment with your dermatologist, he/she will take your blood sample, and a licensed professional shall do it on his behalf and process it to inject on the acne scar. The whole procedure shall be completed within 30 minutes. Since there is no downtime associated with PRP treatment, the patient can resume work or get social immediately.

PRP treatment and associated risks

Since the patient's very own blood samples are used for the treatment, there is practically no risk of infection or allergic reaction. Since there is no use of any synthetic filler, there is also no chance of lumping. The PRP treatment procedure causes minimal pain since the treatment is very quick and a very tiny needle is used for injecting the PRFM substance into acne scars. Slight swelling and bruising may occur due to injection, but cool compresses are applied to the scars to soothe them and reduce swelling and bruising to a significant degree.

PRP treatment- When do results show?
Platelet-rich Plasma treatment has proven to be quite effective in matters of acne scar treatment. Initially, some plumping will occur, but it will subside before final results show up. Results will be apperant after 2 to 3 sessions of treatment.

The number of sessions depends majorly on the severity of acne scarring. Typically, it would be anywhere between one and three. Each session should be done after an interval of 4 weeks, and details of treatment shall be discussed by your dermatologist upon visit.

So, yes, PRP has a huge success rate in treating acne scars. You may long be frustrated with the acne scar; with PRP your worries will no longer tag you around.
