After undergoing a successful liver transplant surgery, one should definitely feel elated, but anxiety is also accompanied during the first few weeks of surgery. There might be few problems in the initial period of time post-surgery, but most of the patients can live a normal lifestyle and carry out all the activities after 3 months with full efficiency. The patients can continue their work, raise their children, take care of their family members, and serve the community and can carry out all the physical activities such as playing football, exercising etc.

  1. Despite all this, you have to take care of your nutrition and follow a proper balanced diet in order to regain the weight as the surgery may lead to loss of weight in your body. For the proper recovery, eating sufficiently is very essential to regain the power and energy like back before. Your diet must comprise of fruits such as apple and pomegranate, green vegetables, whole grain cereals and brown bread, skimmed milk and dairy products, and other milk products that are the rich source of protein such as eggs, meat, fish etc.
  2. One must make sure that sugar-containing food items such as sugary biscuits, and pastries etc. should not be consumed. Rather, you should take in fruits and vegetables that are comparatively low in calorie intake. You must increase the intake of water. You should consume at least 2 litres of water on a daily basis. It is very beneficial for your kidney and helps in the removal of waste substances from the body. Consumption of fruit juices, mineral water, pasteurised low-fat milk etc. proves to be helpful.
  3. One should take care that the fruits that are fresh and washed properly should only be taken. Vegetables like potatoes should be peeled and then cooked in hot boiling water. To keep the vitamins in the vegetables intact, you should cook vegetables in a pressure cooker. You should avoid eating raw vegetables.
  4. Only fresh dairy milk products should be consumed and avoid taking eating any dairy product made from unpasteurized milk. Also, one should limit the amount of salt intake, especially in the initial weeks after surgery as the medications may interfere with the salt consumption.
  5. After liver transplantation, exercising and to keep yourself engaged in some sort of physical activity is important as it aids in improving your physical as well as mental health of the body. You should consult a physiotherapist so that you can get help in avoiding complications related to physical exercises and assist in recovering fast. You should indulge in as much walking s you can. You can enjoy the activities such as bicycling, swimming etc. to carry out a healthy lifestyle after the surgical procedure.
  6. Driving, smoking and alcohol consumption is completely inhibited after liver transplantation surgery.

You can also continue your sexual activity as soon as you feel good. Mostly, men gain their potency after some time, but females take several months to get their menstrual cycle back to the normal.
