How to Get Started With Ayurvedic Diet?

Be aware of the three primary mind-body types. There are three primary doshas in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. You can review the qualities of each dosha to determine your dosha or take an online Dosha quiz to determine your dosha. If you have addictive eating behaviors or an eating disorder, you may have an underlying Vata imbalance as part of your mind-body type.

  • Though some people may use Ayurvedic as a tactic to lose weight, it is not designed as a weight loss program. Rather, Ayurvedic focuses on ensuring you have a mind-body balance through your diet and your eating habits to have a more healthy lifestyle and way of thinking.

Recognize the qualities of a Vata mind-body type. If your primary dosha is Vata, you are very focused on movement and change and possess an energetic and creative mind. Your require balance and stability in your life and low stress to feel energized and enthusiastic about life. But you are also prone to anxiety and insomnia.

  • Vatas tend to have irregular eating patterns, especially when feeling stressed or overworked. You may also be guided by food cravings for comfort foods like chocolate, baked goods, or pastas, rather than a consistent and healthy meal schedule, and you may be prone to skipping meals. You can have extreme eating habits that involve lots of snacking and stress eating or missing meals entirely. Your eating is often centered around stress and you may use eating as a way to deal with feelings of anxiety and imbalance.

Understand the qualities of a Pitta mind-body type. A Pitta dosha tends to be full of intensity for food, experiences, and knowledge. Pittas enjoy being challenged and using their intellect to learn new things. When you feel imbalanced or stressed, you tend to develop heat related issues in your body like heartburn, ulcers, hypertension, and inflammatory conditions. This heat can also manifest in your personality, as you may be prone to frustration, irritability, and feelings of anger.

  • Pittas crave order and predictability with their eating habits and diet, with structured meal times three times a day at the same time every day. You focus on stability and control in many aspects of your life, including eating, and may feel annoyed or grouchy if your meal schedule is thrown off or you eat later than usual. Pittas tend to overeat as a way to express anger, literally swallowing their anger, through eating too much at every meal. You may also view overeating as a way to rebel against stressful situations or larger issues in the world.

Get familiar with the qualities of a Kapha mind-body type. This mind-body type tends to have a natural propensity for physical strength and endurance. You may be naturally athletic, with a calm personality and the ability to use critical thinking and retain information quickly. However, you may be prone to weight gain, fluid retention, and allergies if you are feeling imbalanced. You may also exhibit an aversion to change and an overall stubborn demeanor. Kaphas tend to hold on to experiences, relationships, and objects long after they stop being useful or necessary.

  • Kaphas usually have a natural love of eating and can become addicted to food. If you are feeling imbalanced, you may eat constantly, before and after meal times. You may use food to hide your intense emotions and as a way to avoid confrontation with others or with your own feelings and emotions.

Various weight loss programs and they either fail or regain weight later. If you have lost all the hopes of losing weight, you won't ever be able to lose weight. So, first of all, prepare yourself mentally. I myself and many of my patients have lost weight very easily with these simple steps. By now if you are confident and desperate to lose weight, you are very likely to succeed. But if you aren't motivated enough or aren't yet confident, this article may not help you. 2nd step - Understanding the calorie balance You might have tried and failed earlier. That's expected when we try to do something without understanding it. If you are curious to understand the basics of calorie balance in our body you may go through this beautiful article explaining it in simple language. Glucose is the basic source of energy for our body and even if you are just lying down on the bed, you need approximately 1800-2000 calories per day. The major source of glucose for our body is carbohydrates in our diet. The body starts burning fats only when it is short of glucose supply from the diet. 3rd step - The right diet Stop sugar and sugar-containing products completely. If you are fond of sweets replace it with artificial sweeteners. You can use the artificial sweeteners like Splenda, Equal, Sugar-Free in tea, milk and for making desserts. You can also buy readymade sugarless products like sweets, cookies, ice cream etc. Have lots of salads before every meal. The quantity should be good enough to make your stomach full. With lots of salads and vegetables you might feel full but still, the hunger won't go away. For that, you should then have protein-rich food item. If you are a vegetarian have 3-4 bowls of Dal. You may keep changing the Dal and recipe so that you don't get bored of the taste. If you are a non-vegetarian there are several others options like eggs, fish, chicken, mutton. Once you had protein-rich food item you won't feel like eating. Then if you still feel like having Roti or Rice, you can have it but limit the quantity to 1/4th of your routine diet. Once you start following this diet, don't check your weight at least for a month. You can expect a weight loss of 3-4 kgs visible in 3 months. If you continue the diet, you may lose further and would be able to maintain it. Myths and Facts About Weight Loss Weight loss is a long journey with many misconceptions attached to it. Respected sir/ mam which is the best for family planning? Does Cooper t cause weight gain?
Copper IUDs and Weight Gain Weight gain isn’t listed as a side effect of ParaGard. Anecdotal evidence from women using the device indicates IUDs cause weight gain, but scientific evidence is inconclusive. A study published in Contraception assessing weight changes in Brazilian women using copper IUDs found that weight increased, especially in older women. It was also determined that the women tended to gain weight during their reproductive years independent of IUD insertion. Because of this, weight gain may have been related to age. A more recent study published in the European Journal of Contraception & Reproductive Health Care compared weight gain in women who used hormonal contraception or IUDs. The study found users of both types of birth control gained significant weight over a 10-year period. Although these studies indicate IUD users experienced weight gain, it’s unclear if the gain was due to the IUD or normal aging and lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise. Removing the IUD didn’t necessarily result in weight loss. More research is needed to put an end to the debate about weight gain and IUDs.
