Hi If you have been losing weight inspite of eating well, you should check for thyroid levels. If there is change in appetite and feeling tired, then I advise you to check with the physician close to your place. If everything is ok, then you need not worry. Focus on the right diet, good sleep and physical activity. Eat three good balanced meals rich in nutrients. Eat when you are hungry. Any diet you eat should be rich in micronutrients like vitamins and minerals. Sample plan Breakfast- Egg omelette Apple & banana smoothie Dry grapes Lunch Rice Dal Vegetables curd Snack Guava smoothie Dinner Roti Rajma gravy Banana Brisk Walking 30 minutes every day.

If you are unable to increase your portion size increase the frequency of you meals. Have smaller portions frequently. If necessary consult online in private for medication. Gain weight healthily by eating 5-6 meals a day, even if they are slightly smaller than usual. Make sure each meal includes healthy, calorie-dense foods like nuts and full-fat dairy, as they will help you gain more weight without feeling too full. If you don’t feel like you can eat more, drink liquid calories like 100% juices or smoothies because, since they tend to be less filling than food, they allow you to consume more calories overall. Eat healthy foods that are calorie-dense. When you're trying to gain weight it's important to maximize the amount of calories you can consume with each meal and snack. Calorie-dense foods are items that are high in calories per serving.Consume these foods with each meal and snack. Calorie dense foods to incorporate into your diet include: nuts and nut butters, avocados, full-fat dairy products (cheese, yogurt and milk), butter and oil, and eggs. Also use full-fat condiments like regular mayonnaise, full-fat cream cheese or full-fat salad dressings. Not all high-fat foods are healthy or appropriate to eat more frequently or in larger quantities. Minimize these foods: fast food, deep fried foods, candy, and high-fat processed meats (bologna or hot dogs). If you're eating multiple times throughout the day, you may feel more full. This may lead to smaller meals instead of several large meals. Even when meals/snacks are small, if they are calorie dense, they can help induce weight gain. Add extra calories to meals and recipes. In addition to eating more calorie dense foods, you can also increase calories in your favorite meals and recipes. Adding extra foods or using higher calorie ingredients in your recipes is an easy way to bulk up your total calories. The more of a caloric punch you can add to meals, the more calories you'll consume over a given day and week. In recipes, use full-fat dairy products or dried milk in soups, stews or casseroles calling for water. Drizzle extra olive oil or add an extra pat of butter to salads, steamed vegetables, soups and casseroles. Top lower calorie foods with high-calorie toppings. For example, top whole milk yogurt with nuts and granola or top your salad with full-fat shredded cheese and sunflower seeds. Perform strength training activities. Strength training can aid in your weight gain. As you build lean muscle mass, you may notice your weight increases. This is highly important when attempting to gain weight. Many people do not realize that exercise is crucial to weight gain, just as it is to weight loss. Strength training activities include: weight lifting, isometric exercises (push-ups or crunches) and Pilates. Strength training does burn calories, just not as many as aerobic activities. However, it's still important to be aware of how the calories burned during these exercises affects your weight.

Please elaborate if you have any medical issues. A thorough medical examination is essential if you have a poor appetite and alsoif you are not gaining weight inspite of eating properly. In most cases, weight gain needs patience and happens gradually with improved appetite and sensible eating. Weight gain needs a healthy wholesome diet with increase in proteins, healthy fats and required carbohydrate intake. Include more of fish, eggs, chicken, nuts and oilseeds in your diet with ample quantity of fresh fruits and vegetables. Do not skip meals and eat frequently. Do some exercise along so that digestion is good. Take care that you do not have constipation and are properly hydrated. If you need me to help you out with customized online diet chart, please contact us for a direct consultation through Lybrate or write to me.

You are just 18 and your metabolism would be working in the right way. You should eat as much as you can as this is the right age for you. Exercise at least for 1 hour everyday or join any sport of your choice. Do not worry, when the right time comes you will start gaining weight. Include a good spread of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Protein should be taken from lentils and pulses and also from meat and chicken. Include good amount of nuts in your diet. For further clarification, you can consult a dietitian on line through Lybrate.

Is Your Breakfast Making You Fat?

Is Your Breakfast Making You Fat?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is integral that you choose carefully what you eat in the morning. But if you skip it, you tend to gain more weight than losing any of it, as desired. However, its quality is more important than actually eating it.

  1. If you have too light a breakfast such as only cereals or toast, you tend to get hungrier faster, prompting the need to nibble on a high sugar or sweet snack. Most of us struggle to gain control over their eating.
  2. Look out for the glycemic index (GL) of food, for higher the GL, higher the effect on your body weight. Those foods that have a lower GL, contain proteins that keep you satisfied for longer and that prevents you from munching here and there and this and that. With higher GL foods such as cereals, the blood sugar levels rise rapidly and cause a lot of energy to be stored as fat.
  3. Drinking a glass of that store-bought orange juice may not be a good idea, as it contains high levels of glucose that defeat the purpose of eating a healthy breakfast. It only adds to your fat and body weight.
  4. We often tend to eat that occasional sweet pastry, waffles or pancakes drizzled with sugar syrup. Once again, not the best choice for the first meal of the day. Go for whole wheat items.
  5. Bring in variation to your breakfast, eating the same thing every day doesn't bring in all the required nutrients needed by your body.
  6. Drinking coffee first thing in the morning as a wake-up call is terrible, for its caffeine content increases stress, which only leads to more fat being accumulated around your belly.
  7. It is always better to make sure, that your first meal of the day is a combination of complex carbohydrates and high biological value proteins. Check for the hidden sources of excess sugar and sodium(salt) through nutritional labels. A healthy and power packed breakfast will ensure the right start to the metabolism.

A well-balanced breakfast is one that incorporates healthy proteins and fats, which ensure stable blood sugar levels and stall your cravings. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
