Sebaceous Cyst!

Sebaceous Cyst!

Sebaceous cyst - superficail skin lumps

Sebaceous cysts are noncancerous small bumps beneath the skin. They can appear anywhere on the skin, but are most common on the face, neck and trunk.

Epidermoid cysts are slow growing and often painless, so they rarely cause problems or need treatment.

True sebaceous cysts are less common. They arise from the glands that secrete oily matter that lubricates hair and skin (sebaceous glands).

Symptoms

Epidermoid cyst signs and symptoms include:

  • A small, round bump under the skin, usually on the face, neck or trunk
  • A tiny blackhead plugging the central opening of the cyst
  • A thick, yellow, smelly material that sometimes drains from the cyst
  • Redness, swelling and tenderness in the area, if inflamed or infected

Complications

Potential complications of epidermoid cysts include:

  • Inflammation. An epidermoid cyst can become tender and swollen, even if it's not infected. An inflamed cyst is difficult to remove. Your doctor is likely to postpone removing it until the inflammation subsides.
  • Rupture. A ruptured cyst often leads to a boil-like infection that requires prompt treatment.
  • Infection. Cysts can become infected and painful (abscessed).
  • Skin cancer. In very rare cases, epidermoid cysts can lead to skin cancer.

When to see a doctor

Most epidermoid cysts don't cause problems or need treatment. See your doctor if you have one or more that:

  • Grows rapidly
  • Ruptures or becomes painful or infected
  • Occurs in a spot that's constantly irritated
  • Bothers you for cosmetic reasons
  • Is in an unusual location, such as a finger and toe

Sore Penis From A Parameatal Cyst

Sore Penis From A Parameatal Cyst

Sore Penis From a Parameatal Cyst

Taking pains to ensure good penis health requires some commitment on a man's part, and that includes knowing about some of the common issues that can interfere with good penis care. But no man - unless perhaps he is a doctor - can be familiar with all of the possible detriments to one's penis health. For example, a sore penis can be caused by over-exertion of the organ, a blow to the penis, or numerous other things. But how many men would know that a sore penis might also be caused by something called a parameatal urethral cyst of the glans?

A mouthful

That's rather a lot to get one's mouth around, so for simplicity's sake, this piece will just refer to the condition as a "cyst." But readers should remember that there are many other kinds of cysts, including others which could be located on or around the penis and so what we are describing here is specifically the parameatal urethral cyst of the glans.

What it is?

As mentioned, this particular type of cyst is considered very rare. There are about 5 dozen cases which have been described in the medical literature, meaning that few people have experienced this problem. The "parameatal" part of the name indicates that the cyst is located on or near the meatus, the slit in the penis through which urine and semen leave the body.

A cyst is a closed sack, looking rather like a bubble, which can appear in the body. In this case, it appears on or very nearby the meatus, on the surface of the penis. It can vary in size, although in most cases it is relatively small.

Benign

Some cysts can be associated with cancer, but this kind of cyst is considered benign (or non-cancerous). But that doesn't mean it is totally harmless or doesn't cause any inconvenience. As indicated earlier, sometimes the cyst can cause a sore penis - not in the whole organ, but in the area surrounding the cyst. This is especially the case if one engages in sexual activity - including masturbation - in which friction rubs against the cyst.

Aside from producing a sore penis, the cysts can present an obstacle while urinating. The cyst often blocks some portion of the meatus, thereby preventing urine from flowing freely. This may not only slow down the rate of urination but it may contribute to a "spraying" effect in which the urine flows out in several directions rather than in one solid stream.

Cause and treatment

Because it is so rare, doctors are not sure of the cause of the cyst. The most prevalent theory is that ducts in the urethra get blocked, causing the swelling of the cyst. It has been observed in both adult men and in children.

Although it is possible to "lance" the cyst, that serves primarily to reduce the bubble effect without removing the excess skin of the cyst. Surgical removal of the entire cyst is most often recommended, a fairly simple procedure which can be performed on an outpatient basis. Aftercare involves letting the organ rest and treating to avoid possible infection.

This kind of cyst and the sore penis accompanying it are fortunately not things that the majority of men need worry about. But they should nevertheless take steps to ensure good penis health by daily using a first rate penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). Common sore penis pain from overuse can be soothed by using a crème that moisturizes the skin; look for a crème with a combination of hydrating agents, such as natural shea butter and vitamin E. The best crème will also contain vitamin B5. Also known as pantothenic acid, B5 is a vital nutrient that helps ensure adequate cell metabolism.

Treatment for ovarian cysts through Ayurveda

Ovarian cysts is a common problem that affects women in their childbearing years. These cysts develop inside the ovaries at the time of ovulation.

These cysts are of four main types:

  1. Polycystic ovaries

  2. Endometriosis

  3. Cystadenomas

  4. Dermoid cysts

In most cases, ovarian cysts resolve themselves, but in some cases they can cause pain and grow.

Ayurveda is a holistic form of alternate medication that can be quite effective when it comes to treating ovarian cysts. This form of medication has negligible side effects and hence, can be prescribed to women of all ages. Apart from medication, Ayurveda also involves changes in lifestyle and diet. Ayurvedic herbs help balance the hormones in a woman’s body and thereby improve the overall functioning of the ovaries as well.

Some of the Ayurvedic herbs used in the treatment of ovarian cysts are as follows:

  1. Guggul: This herb has the potential to revitalise cells and can rejuvenate a person. Guggul or commiphora mukul also has purifying properties that helps regulate lipid production and increase iron levels in a person’s blood. It also helps in weight loss and increases metabolism.

  2. Shilajit: The Ayurvedic herb asphaltum or shilajit improves stamina and the ability to deal with physical and mental stress. It is also known to increase sexual desire and enhance libido for both men and women.

  3. Amalaki: Amalaki or emblica officinalis is best known for its ability to rejuvenate cells and rid the body of free radicals. It also helps boost immunity, aids in the development of healthy skin and slows down the aging process. Amalaki helps with digestion and boosts metabolism along with maintaining the proper functioning of the liver.

  4. Aloe: Aloe is the most common Ayurvedic product used for skin care and anti-ageing products. Apart from skincare and hair care, aloe also helps relieve hypertension and has well known antioxidant properties. Additionally, it helps deal with high blood pressure and respiratory problems.

  5. Vitamins and minerals: Some vitamins and minerals boost immunity and have the ability to destroy abnormal cells such as cysts. Zinc helps prevent ovarian cysts, helps the body get rid of free radicals and aids in normal cell growth. Vitamin B complex helps in converting excessive estrogen into less weaker forms and hence balances hormone levels. Antioxidants like vitamin A and E protect the cells against damage and abnormal changes in the cell growth. Vitamin C also helps boost immunity and gives the body the ability to fight illnesses and infections. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda and ask a free question.

Treating ovarian cysts

Treating ovarian cysts

All women have two ovaries located on either side of the uterus. They are fundamental for the process of child birth. However ovarian cysts have emerged as major problems which most women suffer from. In this, small pockets filled with fluids develop on the surface or within the ovaries. Though they are generally harmless, often times disappearing without any treatment, they do have the potential to create complications during child birth. Treatment of ovarian cysts depends on the size and the quantity of the cysts.

Some of the treatments available are-

1. Patience and a careful watch
In case medical examinations reveal tiny cysts, patience can be the key word. If you did not suffer from perceptible symptoms and the cysts were revealed only through tests, you must follow it with regular visits to the doctor. Few medications and regular ultrasound examinations are all you need in such a case.

2. Contraceptives
Birth control pills or contraceptives may be sometimes prescribed to you as possible medications to treat the cysts. Regular administering of these medicines deters the possibility of further development of cysts.  They also benefit greatly in reducing the possibilities of suffering from ovarian cancer in the future.

3. Operations
In case the tests reveal large cysts, operations or surgical removal of them may be the only possible solution.  Operations are generally suggested if the cysts have persisted for a long time and are accompanied by terrible pain in the lower abdomen.

4. Ovarian cystectomy
This is performed when the ovaries are kept intact and only the cysts are carefully removed.

5. Oophorectomy
In this form of surgery, only the ovary that is affected with the cysts is removed, while the other is kept intact. Both the ovaries might also have to be surgically removed if they are found to be affected.

6. Hysterectomy and subsequent removal of fallopian tubes and uterus
This is done when the cysts developed have the potential of becoming cancer us. In such a situation, an extreme measure is adopted with the complete removal of the ovaries along with the uterus and fallopian tubes. This is done in order to prevent the subsequent spreading of cancer. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.
