What is the treatment?

It's quite common for a penis to bend towards its left or right during erection. It's usually harmless and does not cause problems in a man's sex life as well. However, some men want to get read of this condition. Doctors typically suggest non-surgical solutions for this condition.

How is the treatment done?

Immediately after diagnosing Peyronie's disease, doctors suggest non-surgical solutions such as shockwave therapy and injecting steroids into the penis. However, if a patient does not respond to these therapies within 12 months, the doctor prescribes surgery which is the most effective way to treat Peyronie's disease. Surgical procedures are of three types, namely, Plication, Grafting and Penile Prosthesis. Plication involves putting stitches on the penis' longer side to pull the its free end to the middle. In grafting, the surgeon makes an incision on the shorter side of the penis to place a graft made of vein or tissue of small intestine. Penile prosthesis is the process of surgically implanting a prosthesis to straighten the penis.

For painless penile curvature, the best form of treatment is non-invasive traction therapy. There are many traction devices that can help a man to elongate and straighten the penis.

What if Curved Penis is left untreated?

Even though a Curved Penis is not considered a serious medical condition, it can have adverse effects in the longer run. The bent and deformation of the penis can hamper your erection. The uneven spread of blood can also lead to erectile dysfunction, nerve damage, fibrosis, urethral damage. One should consult the nearest doctor soon to avoid such medical conditions.

How long does it take to recover?

It takes the patients almost 5-8 weeks after surgery to heal completely. Those, with Peyronie's disease, who go for the non-surgical options, take almost a year to heal properly.
