What is Weaning?

All babies reach a stage where only breast milk is insufficient to supply the nutrients required for the growth of the babies. This usually happens at around 6 months of life. This time one has to introduce new foods apart from breast milk which is called as weaning.

How to start weaning?

Start with one meal a day and see how your baby reacts.
Choose the best time of the day for you and your baby.
Try feeding your baby with your family at meal ...more

Hello doctor! Since teen years I have been suffering from sweaty hands and feet problem. It is really embarrassing and frustrating. I feel awkward to shake hands with somebody. Handling something puts my dirty sweat mark on it. So much sweat develops on my feet that my sandals become moist with unbearable foul smell. I feel like washing it everyday that I use alternate pair of sandals everyday I go in my college. And to make matters worse when I in tension it is even worse. It is a nightmare. Another complimentary and common problem is hair dandruff which which is as bad. I am fed up of this. Tried so many methods to prevent it and to no avail. It has stuck to head like a cursed magnet. This causes my scalp to be itchy and causes handful flaking. I feel like these problems kill me from inside. I feel kinda depressed due to it. Please help me doctor!

Hello lybrate-user. I can understand your problem but fretting over it will only increase your problem. Hyper active eccrine glands cause excessive sweating which is a very real problem. Firstly try a very simple thing. Use an anti perspirant on your hands and feet also while going out. This will block the glands and reduce sweating. I would suggest you to apply it on your hands nd feet even before going to sleep. Try Candid T V lotion for your dandruff. Use it twice weakly. Apply it on your sca...more

At the end of 6 months. Start weaning first with soft semisolid foods like suji ka halwa, bananas, mashed potatoes, slowly in a few weeks add more solid. At the end of 1 year, your child should take 3 big katories of meals, and 2-3 snacks in between. You can also start top milk (cow's
milk) over and above breast feeds. Breast feeding should be continued till 2 years.

Complimentary feeding at this age is very difficult. You need to look what taste she likes. You need to counsel her. She will copy you as well. So try to make her sit and eat with you.

Hi lybrate-user,
thank you for your query.
After 6 months, complimentary feeds to be started in addition to breast milk.
To start, give one semisolid feed in a day and gradually increase to 2 feeds in a day over 10 to 14 days.
So during 6-8 months, 2-3 feeds in a day and during 9-12 months, 3-4 feeds of complimentary feeds can be given.
Give mashed feeds.
Hope I have answered your concerns.

Hi. Baby should be given exclusive breast feed till 6 months after 6 months we should start complimentary feeds. Our aim should be that baby should take all the home based food by one year of age. Breast feeding should be continued till 2 years of age. The complimentary feeds at six months should be semiliquid and bland and gradually we should increase the consistency and introduce different tastes.
