Hi Lybrate user. Chicken pox is very contagious disease. It's secondary attack rate is 85 %. So there is high possibility of get infection in family members. Patient should be kept in isolation atleast for 5 days after appearence of crust. The person who cares the patient should wear a mask. All cloths / towels should be separate. Thank you.

If the chicken pox has started less than 3 days ago, your Doctor will prescribe an anti viral drug for the chicken pox, also medication for the itching and to apply on the lesions.
There are some medicines which should not be given when the child has chicken pox so, tell your Doctor about any medicines she maybe taking.
Tell her to avoid scratching the lesions (because it could result in scars)
Keep her home till the scabs fall off (7 to 10 days) so that she does not infect the other...more
