Botox - Who Are Eligible For It?

When it comes to skin care, there are numbers of options that start from regimen of cleansing, toning and moisturising to other procedures which can help in repairing and preventing skin problems. Fillers have become commonplace as far as preventing wrinkles and fine lines go. One of the most popular ingredients is Botox which is technically known as Botulinum Toxin Type A. It is used to prevent wrinkles on the face. Let us get to know more about Botox.

How it works: Botox can be used for a variety of purposes and ailments that cause muscular conditions and problems. Botox helps in paralyzing the muscles on a temporary basis so that the wrinkles can be removed cosmetically and the onset of further wrinkles can be prevented. It does so by blocking the signals that come from the nerves to the muscles. When this happen, the muscles that have been injected cannot contract and turn into wrinkles with the onset of age. These muscle contractions usually softens the skin and by causing them to relax. The lines that are a result of this action can be seen on the forehead, and other areas of the face in the form of crow’s feet and frown lines.

The Procedure: The administration of Botox is done with the help of a fine needle injection. Generally, the patient does not require any anaesthesia during the process. The needle is inserted to specific muscles. The procedure usually gives rise to minor discomfort. The effects can be seen at least a week after the procedure has been conducted.

Medication: For any pain and discomfort that comes as a result of the procedure, one can take pain killers like aspirin as well as anti-inflammatory medicines that can help in reducing any inflammation which may come as a side effect of the injection. The anti-inflammatory medication can also protect the skin from any kind of bruising.

Side Effects: While temporary bruising may be seen in some cases, one can also experience headaches that may last for a day or two after the procedure. Droopy eyelids may also be experienced by some patients, which usually clear up in three to four weeks. One should not rub the area where Botox has been administered for at least 12 hours, to avoid excessive bruising and inflammation. Also, one should lie down for a few hours after the procedure to give the skin some rest.

Candidates: Anyone who is pregnant or suffering from a neurological condition should not go in for this procedure. The effect of the injection lasts for about six months after which the muscle action returns. Around this time, the injection will have to be administered again in the affected areas.

Botox Versus Derma Fillers - Which One Is Best For You?

There are several treatment options for wrinkles. These options are longer-lasting options. Among all of these options, Dermal fillers and Botulinum toxin type A (Botox) are popular. Both of these techniques can be used to treat wrinkles.

However, there are a number of factors in which they vary and one can opt for any of these depending upon the requirements. Both treatments are done via injection to treat the wrinkles on the face. However, they both have different procedures.

Let’s know more about these procedures:
Botox Procedure -

Botox is a muscle relaxer that is made from bacteria. It has been in use for decades. Apart from dermatological conditions, Botox is used to treat different conditions. It treats neurological disorders that could be the reason for muscle weakness. It is also used for treating migraines and other several medical conditions.

For the treatment of dermatological conditions, Botox is mainly used for treating dynamic wrinkles. These kinds of wrinkles occur naturally between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and around the mouth. They become more visible with age.

The injections of Botox help in lifting the muscles near these wrinkles. The muscle that contributes to certain wrinkles will be injected with Botox by the doctor to treat the wrinkles. The process of the injection takes a few minutes and the results are visible within two weeks.

Results of Botox
One can notice the desired result of Botox injection within a week. There are no major side effects of this procedure. However, if there are any minor side effects, it can be cured with time.
Side effects of Botox include eye irritation and redness, bruises at the injection site, and headaches and drooping eyelids (can take many weeks to resolve). One should consult the doctor about all the possible side effects and risks before going for the procedure.

The effectiveness of Botox lasts for three to four months.
Dermal Fillers Procedure -

Dermal fillers also treat the face wrinkles but they are mainly used for the treatment of smile lines. However, the cheeks and lips can also be plumped up using these fillers. At times, they are used to reduce the appearance of scars or for the treatment of hands wrinkles. However, Dermal fillers are not approved to plump up the other areas of the body such as the breasts and hips.
Dermal fillers come in various forms and they can be injected like Botox. Some dermal fillers are used temporarily and mainly treat the soft tissues along the smile lines of the face.

Results of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are also effective and it lasts longer than Botox. Results depend upon the kind of filler a person chooses. It also has fewer side-effects and that can be cured with time.
Dermal fillers's side effects include numbness, infection, itching, sores, redness, scarring, an allergic reaction, and bruising. Similar to Botox treatment, maintenance is important once the fillers wear off.

Conclusion
Both Botox injections and Dermal fillers are some of the most successful procedures for treating wrinkles. Both can be considered as a treatment for wrinkles depending upon the need.

Botox - Its Procedure, Uses And Side Effects!

Are you planning on undertaking a cosmetic procedure for rejuvenating your skin? Botox treatment is considered to be effective for this purpose. Botox is a drug made from a certain neurotoxin, and it is produced by a bacteria known as Clostridium botulinum. Botox is also used for medical purposes, especially for the treatment of muscle related conditions. It is primarily used for removing wrinkles via a procedure in which your facial muscles are temporarily relaxed.

Major Uses-
Except for reducing the appearance of your wrinkles and facial lines, which appear because of aging, Botox is used for the treatment of conditions which include leaky bladders, migraines, excessive sweating, and eye squints. Over 20 medical conditions utilize botox as a part of treatment.

How it works?
Botulinum toxin or botox is a poisonous substance. A single gram of botox can kill over one million people. But it acts as an ideal therapeutic protein when utilized in a proper, required dosage.

About botox procedure-
Botulinum toxin powder is diluted in saline to be administered. It is injected into a patient’s neuromuscular tissue and takes around 72 hours to show results. This time reflects the amount of time that is required for disruption of your body’s usual synaptosomal process. It takes around 5 days for the full effect of Botox treatment to show. Pregnant or lactating women and people who are allergic to it from a previous treatment should avoid any form of botox treatment.

Side effects and associated risks-
Although injections containing botox are well tolerated, there are several side effects involved. They are as follows:

  • A person having a genetic predisposition in which a mild, transient response to botox is received. Some patients taking type A botox injections are likely to develop antibodies to the toxins. This makes the treatment ineffective. Antibody development is also indicated in cases of patients taking a type B botox injection for treating cervical dystonia.
  • Along with the intended effects, botulinum toxin may cause some other side effects, which are quite undesirable. They may include headaches, malaise, mild cases of nausea, transient numbness, mild pain, local edema and erythema at the site where the injection is given.
  • Temporary fatigue, of your surrounding musculature, is also likely because of the toxin and its actions.
  • Temporary upper lid and brow ptosis or drooping is another side effect involved with botox.

The results obtained from treatment by type B botox is said to be more effective than botox A treatment. You may expect better results when your muscles remain contracted instead of being relaxed.

Botox - Know Merits Of It!

Aging is often considered to be the only ‘truth’ in the life of a human being, a ‘truth’ that is unalterable. However, being unalterable does not mean that it has to be reflected on your body. The skin loses collagen as you grow older. Collagen is the element in your skin that keeps your skin tight and firm when you are young. Loss of collagen leads to skin sagging as well as wrinkles.

Botox, a cosmetic treatment derived from Clostridium Botulinum, is utilized for smoothing wrinkled skin. Botox is utilized in the form of injections. The Botulinum toxin is injected into the body in traceable amounts; it inhibits the secretion of chemical (acetylcholine) associated with contraction of muscles and hence, helps in smoothening wrinkles and fine lines. Botox prevents the nerve cells from transmitting signals to the muscles.

The various benefits of Botox include:

  1. Non-surgical: Since Botox is administered using injections, the fears and hassles of undergoing surgery are avoided.
  2. Excessive sweating: Botox injections can be used to address hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is generally characterized by increased sweating.
  3. Overactive bladders: In addition to treating wrinkles, Botox can also be utilized to address the condition of overactive bladder and urinary incontinence (involuntary and uncontrolled urination). Botox increases the volume of the bladder thereby reducing incontinence. Once an injection is administered, the overactive bladder will be cured gradually.
  4. Migraines: Botox injections, administered at regular intervals for around 12 weeks, can be used to address chronic migraines. It helps reduce headaches and additionally, reduces the chances of relapse. It is extremely beneficial for those who suffer from chronic headaches during one such migraine attack.
  5. Eyebrow: Your eyebrow may sag due to various factors, age being the primary contributor. Botox helps lift your drooping eyebrows; giving you a fresher and youthful look.
  6. Enlarged Prostate: Botox injections can have long term beneficial effects on men with enlarged prostates. Problems related to frequent urination and infections in the urinary tract can be addressed, while side effects, that accompany other medications, are avoided.

Skin Fillers Or Derma Fillers - Know How They Help In Regaining Youth!

Dermal or skin fillers are natural or synthetic substances that are used to make a particular area on the face look plump, in other words, 'fill' the skin produce younger-looking, firmer, plumper skin. Usually used as injections, they plump up the skin just enough to make the wrinkle or the fine lines disappear. While Botox is also used as an injection, its intended use and area of use is different from fillers. Botox is most often used in the outer corners of the eyes and around the forehead.

Fillers are used in other areas mentioned below:

1. The laugh lines or the nasolabial folds, lines that run from the nose to the mouth. Fillers can help smooth out the creases and add volume to this area.

2. It can make the cheeks look fuller and provide a youthful appearance. Especially in the lower cheek areas, the fat pads shift constantly giving a hollowed-out appearance. Fillers can be used in this area to produce younger appearance with fuller cheeks

3. The undereye area, where there are depressions or hollows can produce a sagging, elderly look. Fillers used here can improve the appearance markedly

4. Even out scars resulting from chicken pox or acne

5. Even out irregularities due to shifting fat pads, especially in the temple area or the lower cheek areas.

6. Adding volume to thin lips, which again can make one appear old and aged

7. Smoothing out vertical lines around the lip edges, which again produce an elderly appearance

These are some uses of dermal fillers. As mentioned, they can be natural or synthetic substances.

Natural fillers usually have hyaluronic acid and are usually effective immediately, but last for about 6 months to a year. In some people, subsequent filler injections produce effective results and the interval between injections may continue to increase.

Synthetic ones, on the other hand, contain collagen or other similar chemicals but can produce more long-lasting results. They can be semi-permanent or permanent.

When to use fillers

A great skin care regime can help delay the onset of ageing changes and also reduce the severity. However, despite it, after a certain stage, there would definitely be changes arising out of muscle movement, fat loss, chronic sun damage, ageing skin, etc. When these begin to bother you, then dermal fillers are a good option to consider.

However, a detailed discussion with your dermatologist including aspects of both should ensue. From the doctor's end, check for his skills, experience, technique used, testimonials and expenses. Discuss your skin type, risk tolerance, and potential side effects before choosing a treatment option. Once you opt for dermal fillers, the routine skin care with well-tested products needs to continue, including aggressive care against sun damage.
