ANAEMIA CAUSES SYMPTOMS AND CURE

What Is Anaemia?
Anaemia develops when you don’t have enough robust, healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body. The blood cells may lack enough haemoglobin. Anaemia affects one in 10 teen girls and women. It also develops in men and children and is linked to some illnesses.

What Are the Symptoms of Anaemia?
The symptoms of anaemia vary according to the type of anaemia, the underlying cause, the severity.
Symptoms common to many types of anaemia include the following:
• Easy fatigue and loss of energy
• Unusually rapid heartbeat, particularly with exercise
• Shortness of breath and headache, particularly with exercise
• Difficulty concentrating
• Dizziness
• Pale skin
• Leg cramps
• Insomnia
• Soreness of the mouth with cracks at the corners
• A tingling, "pins and needles" sensation in the hands or feet.
• Lost sense of touch
• A wobbly gait and difficulty walking
• Clumsiness and stiffness of the arms and legs
• Dementia

Dietary Changes needed
Low levels of vitamins or iron in the body can cause some types of anaemia. These low levels might be the result of a poor diet or certain diseases or conditions. Common vitamin supplements are vitamin B12 and folic acid (folate). Vitamin C sometimes is given to help the body absorb iron.

Iron
Your body needs iron to make haemoglobin.
Good sources of iron include:
• Eggs
• Red meats
• Spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables
• Tofu
• Peas; lentils; white, red, and baked beans; soy beans; and chickpeas
• Dried fruits, such as prunes, raisins, apricots , pistachio, dates, almonds, figs.
• Prune juice
• Iron-fortified cereals and breads
• Honey
• Jaggery
• Peanut butter

Vitamin B12
Low levels of vitamin B12 can lead to pernicious anaemia. This type of anaemia often is treated with vitamin B12 supplements.
Good food sources of vitamin B12 include:
• Breakfast cereals with added vitamin B12
• Meats such as beef, liver, poultry, and fish
• Eggs and dairy products (such as milk, yoghurt, and cheese)
• Foods fortified with vitamin B12, such as soy-based beverages.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron.
Good sources of vitamin C include:
• Citrus fruits rich like oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and similar fruits.
• Other fruits rich in vitamin C include kiwi fruit, strawberries, and cantaloupes.
• Fresh and frozen fruits, vegetables, and juices usually have more vitamin C than canned ones.
• Vegetables rich in vitamin C include broccoli, peppers, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, cabbage, potatoes, and leafy green vegetables like turnip greens and spinach.
