There are several reasons for acidity to occur. The scientific explanation for this situation is – the stomach naturally secretes acid to aid the digestion process. When this acid becomes higher than the required amount in the stomach, it is called acidity. Acidity has several symptoms including heartburn, acid reflux, throat burn, nausea, chest burn, regurgitation of food, headache, foul breath, etc.

What causes acidity?

As per Ayurveda, there are three main reasons for Acidity – Ahara, Vihara and mental conditions. Incorrect ahara like too much fast food or oily food, excessively spicy food, lesser intake of water than the required amount, eating too late, or skipping meals entirely are some of the most common reasons. Also, incorrect Vihara like minimum rest, stressful lifestyle, no exercise, and not getting enough sleep can cause acidity.

The best way to avoid is to ensure a good and healthy lifestyle, with proper food and sleeping habits. If that is not working, of course, some medicines are available. Good Ayurvedic ways to take care of acidity are ingredients like Munakka Ghan, Kamal Ghan, Kharek (Dry Khajoor) Ghan, Jayfal Ghan and Elaichi Ghan.
