Cancer is a common disease and there are several treatment options for it. The type of treatment the patient will get depends on the cancer type as well as the stage of cancer. The cancer stage means that the extent to which it has spread in the body of the patient. Other factors that determine the treatment type include the patient's age, health condition, and individual characteristics. Usually, cancer cannot be treated with a single method, which means the condition should be treated by combining different treatments.

Common treatment options for cancer include:

Surgery: This is the oldest cancer treatment and it involves the elimination of cancer from the body of the patient to heal the condition completely if cancer has not spread to other body parts. Usually, the treatment involves the elimination of the prostate or a testicle or a breast.

Radiation: Through this treatment, the cancer cells are destroyed through high-power rays focused on the cancer cells. This will completely kill the molecules that are responsible for the formation of cancer cells and it will make the cells destroy themselves.

Chemotherapy:  It is an ideal treatment for cancer when it has spread to different parts of the body. In this treatment, the medicines are allowed to pass through the entire body of the patient to destroy the cancer cells.

Immunotherapy: The major aim of this treatment is to make the immune system strong enough to fight against the tumor. In this treatment, the medicines are injected into the infected area of the body to reduce the size of the tumor. Complete immunotherapy treats the entire body of the patient by directing the protein interferon-alpha, which is an agent that has the ability to contract tumors.

Gene therapy: This type of cancer treatment is done to replace the injured genes with healthy genes. These replaced genes find the main cause of cancer and help in treating the condition effectively. Other cancer treatments, which are based on genes, focus on damaging the cancer cell chromosome further to the end where the cancer cell dies itself.

Your doctor will decide the best treatment for you after examining your medical condition.
