Hi…This problem is due to irritation and inadequate nutrition of the brain. So follow few basic things …. 1) drink only 100-150 ml of water during meals …. 2) don’t drink water one hour before meals and one hour after meal… 3) avoid oily, spicy, salty, junk, fast, fermented and stale foods… 4) avoid coffee and tea… 5) try to sleep upto 10.30 pm … 6) do anuloma viloma pranayam and omkar chanting regularly early in the morning… A) eat 30-40 black currants and 1 tsf of jaggery during meals… B) take 250 ml of fresh butter milk during meals. C) instill 3-4 drops of CHANDANADI TAILA in each nostril at the time of sleeping…… Do all these things for 15 days. It gives you good result. Consult to me for further suggestions. THANKS.

The depression can easily be the cause of the insomnia. In the meantime, you can try out the following recommendations: In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i. E. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

Hi, I have stutter/stammer from as long as I can remember. I am 27 now, the biggest problem is, I can speak fluently with the family members and friends but I stutter/stammer when speaking to a stranger or in a group or while presenting something. I have been doing the reading and repeating exercises from last 2-3 years but nothing seems to help. Any advice would be helpful.

Stammering can be made lesser only and only by speech therapy. So you should take the help of a speech therapist. Also, i'd suggest you to visit a psychologist as confidence plays a great role in dealing with this problem. I'd suggest you to speak very slowly, word by word. People may make fun of this but believe me, slowly you'll get better at it.

Hello lybrate-user, Stress is one of the commonest situation we all are dealing in with and I can understand your pressures. Since we have to work and manage our personal life too it is important to keep a check on WORK-LIFE BALANCE. Try to take out some time for yourself and for relaxing activities which may help you improving your mood and health and in turn bring positive attitude too. Spending quality time with family and peers is also helpful along with regular exercises. Hope that keeps your BP in control. Take care of yourself. Life is valuable. Good luck.

My memory is deteriorating. Pls suggest me effective solution as soon as possible so I can concentrate for my final exam.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, There are few food items which helps you in boosting up your memory power, increases focus & concentration, so try to take more of these: 1.Choline: Good sources of choline include liver, milk, eggs and peanuts. 2.Vitamin B: B vitamins are not synthesized in the body, and thus need to be obtained from food. B-complex vitamins are water-soluble vitamins, which means that they are not stored within the body. In consequence, the B vitamins need ongoing replenishment. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) rich sources include unrefined grain products, ready-to-eat cereals, meat (especially pork), dairy products, peanuts, legumes, fruits and eggs. Foods that contain high concentrations of vitamin B3 (niacin) in the free form include beans and organ meat, as well as enriched grain and cereal products. While niacin is present in corn and other grains, the bioavailability of the nutrient is much less than it is in protein-rich sources. The role of vitamin B9 (folic acid) during pregnancy is vital to normal development of the nervous system in the fetus. Good sources of folate include liver, ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, beans, asparagus, spinach, broccoli, and orange juice.Animal protein products are a good source of vitamin B12 (cobalamine), particularly organ meats such as kidney or liver. Other good sources are fish, eggs, and dairy products. 3.Vitamin A: The foods highest in Vitamin A are any pigmented fruits and vegetables and leafy green vegetables. 4.Zinc: Zinc is a very important part of the brain as well; many regions of the brain, such as the cerebellum, and hippocampus have neurons that contain this nutrient.Zinc is needed to maintain normal Vitamin A levels in blood plasma. Sources of zinc are meats, certain seafood, whole grains, baked beans, oatmeal, milk (low-fat), cashewnut, almonds, kidney-beans, cheese, peas, spinach, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine for increasing memory - Anacardium 200/ once daily.

You should be able to distinguish between disappointment and depression. Disappointment also brings on symptoms identical to depression but they are short lived. Were you disappointed in the near past? please post a private question to me with every detail. I will help you. Take care.

I get anxious, panic attacks and my right hand shivers a lot due to anxiousness. What should i do?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
I get anxious, panic attacks and my right hand shivers a lot due to anxiousness. What should i do?
A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause. Panic attacks can be very frightening. When panic attacks occur, you might think you're losing control, having a heart attack or even dying. Many people have just one or two panic attacks in their lifetimes, and the problem goes away, perhaps when a stressful situation ends. But if you've had recurrent, unexpected panic attacks and spent long periods in constant fear of another attack, you may have a condition called panic disorder. Panic attack can come in agoraphobia, when there is fear of places where there is no exit, in crowds, locked places, travelling far from home….etc. Although panic attacks themselves aren't life-threatening, they can be frightening and significantly affect your quality of life. But treatment can be very effective. Consult a Psychiatrist and get remedy. All the best for you.
