Ways to Treat Menorrhagia

EMDR, FRCOG (LONDON) (Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), MFSRH , Diploma in psychosexual therapy, Medical diploma in clinical Hypnosis, Diploma in Evidence Based Healthcare, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS

Ways to Treat Menorrhagia

Menorrhagia is a condition that is marked by heavy menstrual bleeding during the monthly menstrual cycles. Most women have a unique bleeding pattern during that time of the month with the flow going up and down over the first few days. Yet, for many women, the bleeding becomes consistently heavy during all the days of the period, during which the period itself may get extended by a few days. If this pattern continues to occurs, one must get it checked out by a doctor at the earliest. Here are a few ways in which this condition may be treated.

Factors considered during treatment: Before the treatment starts, and during the diagnosis stage, the doctor will take a look at a number of factors so that the correct form of treatment may be prescribed to the patient. To begin with, the doctor will take a complete medical history of the patient, including the family history to ascertain whether or not there may be a genetic problem at play. Further, the future childbearing plans of the patient will also be taken into consideration in such cases so that the treatment method does not hinder such plans. Also, the doctor will also try and understand the effect of the symptoms of this condition before prescribing any particular medication and surgery.

  • Medication: Iron supplements and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines will be prescribed for the patient to bring down the level of inflammation and restore the production of blood, which will make up for the rapidly flowing blood from the body. This will also prevent the risk of anemia (Learn how anemia affects the human health). Oral contraceptives, tranexamic acid, oral progesterone and hormonal therapy can also help in such cases.
  • Dilation and curettage: This procedure is also known as D&C, and it basically helps in dilation or opening up of the cervix so that the doctor may suction the tissue from the uterine lining. This tissue is usually known to bring about excessive bleeding.
  • Uterine artery embolisation: This is a procedure which shrinks any existing fibroids that may be the cause behind excessive bleeding. In this procedure, the uterine arteries are blocked and the blood supply to the same is cut off so that the fibroids do not get a chance to grow and cause unnecessary pressure that may lead to excessive bleeding.
  • Hysterectomy: This is a surgical procedure that removes the cervix as well as the uterus (You can learn more about infections of the Uterus), and is usually the last resort followed by most doctors. In such cases, the doctor will first ascertain whether or not you plan to have any children in the future. Additionally, the ovaries may also be removed if the condition has spread too much to be contained sufficiently.

Hello doctor, my question is how to get rid of small pores it looks bit awkward suggest me some cream.

MD - Dermatology

Hello doctor, my question is how to get rid of small pores it looks bit awkward suggest me some cream.
Pores need further treatment with procedures like microdermabrasion, peels, lasers. Cosmetics, oil, chemical agents vil clog pores and increase acne. Picking at existing acne vil leave bad marks. Wash face with cold water and use a mild salicylic acid face wash. Drink plenty of water. Consume lots of bright colour fruits and vegetables. They provide antioxidants and phytonutrients which provide the necessary glow to the skin. Use a honey, banana and curd on your face. Apply and leave it. Wash after ten minutes without soap, you can see your face glowing.

Prostatitis treatments vary depending on the underlying cause. They can include: Antibiotics. This is the most commonly prescribed treatment for prostatitis. Your doctor will base the choice of medication on the type of bacteria that may be causing your infection. If you have severe symptoms, you may need intravenous (IV) antibiotics. You'll likely need to take oral antibiotics for four to six weeks but may need longer treatment for chronic or recurring prostatitis. Alpha blockers. These medications help relax the bladder neck and the muscle fibers where your prostate joins your bladder. This treatment may lessen symptoms, such as painful urination. Anti-inflammatory agents. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may make you more comfortable. Prostate massage. This is done by your physician using a lubricated, gloved finger — a procedure similar to a digital rectal exam. It may provide some symptom relief, but doctors disagree about how effective it is. Other treatments. Other potential treatments for prostatitis are being studied. These treatments include heat therapy with a microwave device and drugs based on certain plant extracts

Hi, Start taking nutritious, healthy food and daily yoga or some kind of exercises, it will be automatically reflected on your face. Daily Regime: Apply liberally sunscreen with SPF-30 – a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare cream may be, 20-30 minutes before going out daily and repeat it's application after every 3-4hrs. In case you do have tanning, apply honey with a dash of lime on your face and wear hand and arm gloves to protect them from sunlight. Eat right and healthy that too on time, relieve your stress/ tensions, sleep well, stop smoking, as this restricts blood flow to your face and leaves you with a greyish complexion. lead a healthy lifestyle! Apart from this, avoid anger, anxiety, fear which increases stress hormone in the body and subsequently makes your complexion darker! (Hormonal imbalances also plays a major role). If the dull and dark skin tone is due to any underlying ailment or diseases, need to look into the matter. Diet: -Increase your Vitamin C intake (lemon,orange,gooseberry,etc.Fruits/juices, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and green peas). - Eat more Vitamin A (nonfat milk, oysters, and egg yolks, carrots, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, or other dark colored produce) . If you feel your skin is weak or not tight enough, that usually suggests a lack of Vitamin A. Medicine: You can also use homoeopathic cream - Medicynth's Whitch Hazel daily at night. Home remedies: Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this daily or every other day. Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off.

My skin complexion is very dark what should I do to lighten my skin complexion without any side effects.

My skin complexion is very dark what should I do to lighten my skin complexion without any side effects.
There are many reasons why your skin would turn dark. Sun tan, overweight, pigmentation disorders like acanthosis or melasma, nutritional deficiency etc are some conditions. Unless someone examines you, we cannot know the cause. Unless we find out the cause it is difficult and pointless to treat. Please send photos with detailed history in private chat for proper treatment. Use a good sunscreen and start exercising. Take lots of fruits and green vegetables in your diet.

Sir I am 19 years old male .I have eat many fruits and vegetables and take medicines also but my dark circles under eyes is still. Please do help.

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Ahmedabad
Hello, thank you for posting on lybrate. Dark circles under eyes or under eye pigmentation is a challenging condition to treat. Its seen commonly in people having stressful life and irregular sleep and diet. Its also seen among people having atopic dermatitis and asthma. Sometimes its genetic due to deep sunken eye sockets in skull. Most of the otc products are not very useful. I would advise you to apply tacrolimus 0.03% ointment at night and avarta eye cream twice a day. Take oral vit c regularly. Additionally, a series of chemical peels like arginine, lactic acid etc from a certified dermatologist can help alot. Try to de-stress your life and maintain a healthy schedule. If you require any further assistance from my side you may contact me privately through the option of'private questions' on lybrate. Hope you will be fine. Take care Dr. Hardik pitroda.

Hello. There can be various kinds of white spots, it can be a fungal infection/ hypopigmentation/vitiligo etc. Apply candid cream in it regularly for a week. If it does not go, you should see a doctor. If it is an infection, the spot will be light and will go. If the spot is bright or pinkish it can be vitiligo or hypopigmentation. It takes times to go or it won't go.
