Dealing With Menstrual Cramps - How Can They Be Reduced?

Menstrual cramps that occur during menstruation cycle can impair your regular activities. The menstrual cramps, also called dysmenorrhea, are caused by the uterine contractions. The intensity of the pain that a woman feels can be related to the woman’s prostaglandin glands. Those who are with elevated levels of prostaglandin suffer from intense than those with lesser levels.

Though the menstrual cramps are harmless, they do get unmanageable at times. Like dealing with any other pain, a relief becomes necessary. Several remedies and treatments are available to reduce menstrual cramps, and some of them are listed below.

  1. An Improved DietThe easiest way that you can adopt to tackle menstrual cramps is to improve your diet. You must reduce consuming fats and turn to vegetables as your primary food. Low-fat diet always helps to decrease the overall inflammation in your body. Its effects on menstrual cramps have also been noticed. Thus, it is beneficial to stop consuming saturated unhealthy fats and start consuming unsaturated healthy fats.
  2. A Painkiller is Effective: The most popular remedy for pain has always been a painkiller. Though treating your menstrual cramps with pills is rare, but a safe painkiller with no steroids can seal the deal. However, as it with any medicine, consult your doctor before consuming any.
  3. Tea: Just plain tea or herbal teas can be helpful to reduce the menstrual cramps. Though the research on this particular relief method is extremely scarce, it is a traditional remedy and has been giving some refuge to women under cramps. Tea with cramp barks and tea with peppermint oil are a few of the most popular home remedies to manage the pain.
  4. Fish Oil and Vitamin B1: Fish oil supplements and vitamin B1 has been proved to be useful in treating menstruation cramps. A study published in September 2014 in Global Journal of Health Science showed that women who were consuming fish oil supplements or Vitamin B1 or both showed reduced effects on cramps than the women who didn’t take any. Moreover, consumption of fish oil supplements or vitamin B1 or both disappeared the cramps faster than usual.
  5. Essential Oil Massage: A study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research in May 2012, showed that a massage with aromatic essential oil over the abdominal region, both upper and lower, helped to reduce the pain and the cramps. Take a few drops of the oil and massage frequently over the course of your period, and it will provide you with some relief.
  6. Hot Pad: Perhaps the most followed remedy to menstrual cramps is the hot pad. Curl up with a hot pad over your lower abdomen, and it is sure to give you relief. This is great for minor cramps.

Traditional and home remedies provide relief in most cases. However, if the pain is unbearable and occurs along with vomiting or other problems, visiting your gynecologist is advised. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

This is what you need:

2 Ltr water, clean filtered water (if only tap water is available, than use that one)
1 organic lemon, washed, cut into eights
1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt


Fill the jug, than add the lemon slices (do not squeeze them!) and then add 1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt in it and cover it. Let it stay overnight (8 to 12 hours) at room temperature.

Drink 3 glasses of water every morning when you wake up before you eat or drink anything else to achieve the best pH balance in your body.

do exercise like weights , arm stretching , massage, swimming ,rowing ( do whatever is available and practical) , anatomy cannot be changed but you can tone up the muscles, be less fat , reduce weight by 5 kgs for height of 5.1, it is not difficult ,just cut down bad fats, sugar, but eat lots of seasonal vegetables and fruits and do walk as an exercise for lower limbs. wear a sports bra to feel less conscious.

Do you want to say swelling on neck. If thyroid profile is normal it's good but if swelling is causing difficulty while eating, then take tablet brufamol 3 times daily for 3 days, see a surgeon because any such obstruction needs to be taken care of.

Hello. I am 24 years old. My periods have always been regular. However since last nine months my periods became scanty. Lasting 3 days instead of 5 and some spotting on 4th day. But they where always regular. However, this month I dint get my period. I went to a gynecologist who said this is pcod and the only treatment is changing life style. Absolute healthy diet. exercise and stress free life. She examined my breasts by squeezing them and checking with a stethoscope. I now noticed that Had a super healthy diet and never missed my dance and yoga I would get my period perfectly. And this month due to some work I dint have time for yoga or dance and my diet also went for a toss. The doctor also said that I am over weight by 5 kgs and it would greatly benefit me if I reduced weight. Now my question is that m I having these menstrual abnormalities becoz I dint follow a good life style for a month. Or is it due to prolactin? I read on the internet that high prolactin causes this problem and the reason for high prolactin is tumor. My doctor dint do any pro Lactin test. She is a very Gud gyneac and her diagnosis is awesome but I am worried if she missed out on checking this pro Lactin. Should I insist for a test? Or should I start my exercise and healthy diet again would it suffice? I have no other health problems. I don't smoke or drink. Not sexually active. I do feel a little dizzy but doctor said it's cuz of low bp. (110/80). Thank you.

Hi, I have almost always had regular periods for that last 16 years, but for the past 3 months its become highly irregular with delays of 15 days or more. I am getting married in a couple of months and have considerable traveling due to my work. Should I be too worried about the irregularities?

You must in ur late twenties if u have lot of physical stress due to travelling or mental stress due to upcoming marriage the menses irregularities can happen.. but getting it checked by the doctor to ensure that there is no organic lesion is always advisable.

How to Overcome Premature Ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is a kind of sexual dysfunction. Almost 1 out of 3 men experience this problem at some point. Premature ejaculation is an uncontrollable ejaculation that occurs shortly after sexual intercourse. It may result in unsatisfactory sex for both partners. This can increase the anxiety that may add to the problem.

Premature ejaculation is the inability to delay ejaculation for more than one minute after penetration. It can be classified in two types – lifelong and acquired. Lifelong premature ejaculation occurs all or nearly all of the time beginning with your first sexual encounters. Acquired premature ejaculation develops after you’ve had previous sexual experiences without ejaculatory problems.


Premature ejaculation

The exact cause of this condition isn’t known. However, there are certain causes that are believed to cause this problem.

Psychological causes:

Psychological factors that might play a role include:

  • Early sexual experiences
  • Sexual abuse
  • Depression
  • Worrying about premature ejaculation
  • Feeling guilty
  • Biological causes
  • A number of biological factors might contribute to this such as:
  • Abnormal hormone levels
  • Abnormal levels neurotransmitters
  • Inflammation and infection of the prostate or urethra
  • Inherited traits

Other factors

1. Erectile dysfunction

Premature ejaculation can be at higher risk in you if you have erectile dysfunction or if you have fear of losing your erection that may also cause you to consciously or unconsciously hurry through sexual encounters resulting premature ejaculation.

2. Anxiety

Anxiety is also one of the causes of this problem. Many men with this problem may have anxiety either specifically about sexual performance or related to other issues.

How to overcome premature ejaculation?

Ejaculation can be considered premature when it occurs 30 seconds to 4 minutes into sex. However, it seems that most tend to agree that any sexual intercourse lasting less than 2 minutes can be considered premature ejaculation. There are some ways to overcome premature ejaculation.

1. Behavioral techniques

Behavioral techniques can help you delay orgasm. It involves stimulating the penis and stopping just before you feel you are about to ejaculate. Stop this for 30-60 seconds and restart. Repeat this process up to 4-5 times unless you decide to delay orgasm. It also involves squeezing the penis in the area between the shaft and the glans before you are about to ejaculate.

2. Other tips

Use a thick condom to help decrease sensation. Take a deep breath. This can decrease anxiety and help you gain better control over your ejaculation. Have sex with your partner on top and take breaks during sex and distract your mind by thinking about something boring.

3. Medication

If these techniques are not helpful medications are recommended to treat this problem. These medicines are basically antidepressants. These pills may have side effects such as nausea, headache and delaying ejaculation.
