Hi, i am a thyroid patient, want to know how to cope up its side effects in long run, as I have joint pains and putting on weight.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Pay close attention to your food choice. ·        Eat less carbohydrate food sources like chapatti, rice, noodles, pasta, bread etc as they help in gaining weight and storing fat. ·        While having lunch or dinner eat vegetables and dal to fill your stomach rather eating lots of chapattis or rice. ·        Have a healthy breakfast like poha, idli, upma, plain dosa, oats, dalia or khichdi with vegetables. ·        Eat a balance diet including good quality proteins like: fish, lean chicken and eggs. If you are a vegetarian then include skimmed milk, low fat paneer, butter milk, soy bean or soy milk in your diet. ·        Avoid ghee, butter or vanaspati. Prepare your diet with vegetable oil like sunflower, safflower soybean or olive oil. ·        Eat plenty of salads. ·        Eat fresh fruits including apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, sweet lime, berries, guava, watermelon, mask melon etc. ·        Avoid eating outside junk and fried foods like pizza, pasta, roll, burgers, cakes, chocolates and cookies. ·        Have an early dinner. The earlier the better, giving your system more time to digest the food. ·        Avoid cold drinks/alcohol as they add empty calories to your diet. ·        Avoid fat enriched milk products like cheese, sweets, full fat cream etc. ·        Drink 3 liters of water in a day. ·        Try to have less sugar in food and beverages. ·        Try to drink 2 cups of green tea in a day as green tea helps in weight loss by aiding digestion. ·        Avoid red meat like mutton, beef, lamb or pork. ·        Eat sprouts or roasted chana, whenever you feel hungry.

My wife is getting urinary tract infections repeatedly. She has a lot of ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, vertigo copd and is 74 years. She can not take antibiotics by mouth because she gets stomach upset and vomiting and has to undergo intravenous antibiotic injections. Is there any ayurveda treatment for UTI.

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
UTI is a nagging infection. It need a long term treatment. Your wife is having added disadvantage Diabetes and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Diabetes make the body prone to infection and RA alters immune-response may be due to treatment itself. You shall have to find out the right antibiotic and give a full course. Followed by some maintenance therapy for about 6 months. Before that exclusion retention of urine or bladder dysfunction is to be excluded. Blood glucose control is absolutely essential. Best adviser shall be your consultant, because he is examining your wife, what is required.

Dear lybrate user, you should immediately stop the medication for blood pressure. Regarding your problem of diabetes I fear that you may have become insulin dependant diabetic patient. In that case you should go for insulin injection. However, you could try homoeopathic uranium nit q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water for one month. Check your blood sugar level after one month of medication. If you do not observe any decrease in your blood sugar level then you should go for insulin injection.

lybrate-user, Insulin is essential in T1 diabetes as there is no other drug that works in that condition. If you have T2 diabetes then unless diabetes is very severe with blood glucose levels over 300 to 400 mg/100 ml, there may be no need to start with Insulin. There are enough good drugs available which give excellent glucose control. Thanks.

lybrate-user, TSH 7.38 mU/L, is above the normal limit, it is in the sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Unless there are any specific symptoms related to it, there is no need to take any treatment. Your blood report is fine, sometimes higher values of Hb are seen. Your Lymphcyte count is much higher than normal (25 to 30%) Thanks.

There is no scientific evidence to show that Green Tea or Coffee can reduce any weight. These are all myths. There is no medicine or mix or herbs that can burn body fat. Body weight is due to extra fat/carbs consumed which gets stored as fat. This fat can only be reduced by burning it with Exercise + Light Natural Diet. Your Constipation can be cured... 1. Drink 2 glass water on waking up. 2. Drink one glass water every hour till 8 pm 3. Eat 1 Banana, 1 Apple and 1 Cucumber between meals. 3. Take 3 dry dates with breakfast and 10 kishmish in evening every day. 4. Do this everyday for 2 weeks and your constipation problem will get solved. Don't waste money over Green Tea or Coffee. Drink water.. eat natural.. Be happy..Be fit.

Hello Sir, Your blood glucose levels are borderline high. With appropriate medication and proper diet and exercise I am fairly certain that the glucose would come down to normal range. Reducing your weight will help you a lot too to reduce your blood glucose levels. The diet that will help you both with weight loss and blood glucose control is as follows: - eat plenty of vegetables either as salads or in curry form (made with less oil or fat). Avoid potatoes, colocasia, yam etc. Limit your carbohydrates intake- like rice, roti, chapati etc. Use whole grains wherever possible like bajra, Raghu, different types of mullets, whole wheat Upma etc. Take a small bowl of dal everyday. You can eat 2 fruits (avoid mango, jack fruit, sapota etc). Can drink glass of milk, take curds/buttermilk. Avoid sweets, cakes, biscuits, junk food etc. Exercise at least 45 min/day, includes brisk walking, cycling, jogging, swimming etc. I cannot advise you which medication to take in open forum due to Lybrate rules. You can consult me privately for that as private consultation. Or you could see a good diabetologist where you live. I hope this has helped you Thank you.

Dear lybrate user, one of the major nutritional substance required for human body is carbohydrate. We take carbohydrate in the form of rice, wheat, sugar etc. The complex molecules of carbohydrate are broken down into simple glucose molecules during digestion & released in the blood stream to be absorbed by the muscle cells. Insulin hormone plays a vital role in the absorption of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells. In abnormal conditions, either due to less production of insulin or due to resistance to insulin, the process of absorption of glucose by the muscles comes to a stand still. The glucose molecules remains in the bloodstream which results in the increase in the blood sugar level. This abnormal condition is clinically known as diabetes mellitus. Once a patient is diagnosed with diabetes he has to take regular medicine to keep his blood sugar level within normal limits. Take homoeopathic mother tincture gymnemna sylvestra q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. Also you need to walk at least 1 hour daily without any interval. Also you need to take a low carbohydrate rich diet. Avoid rice, sweet dishes, fruits, cold drinks, fast foods, alcoholic beverages, potato etc.
