Hi, Fever severity, duration and any associated symptoms are the main factors to consider. Better always maintain a temperature chart with you whenever your child gets fever. Use any digital thermometer to record the body temperature which is easily available everywhere. During fever spikes, record the temperature for every 4 hrs. If you child's temperature measured in armpit shows 99 deg F or more, then consult nearby child specialist.

I have twin baby 5 month old I m not having enough milk can you give an advice what to give and what not to give.
You can start formula milk but avoid cow's milk till 12 month age, also after 15-20 days you can start weaning babies with liquid things like dal etc but still milk should be priority for sometime at least till 7-8 month age. Take care.

I have given birth to twins 15 days ago. As my feeding is not sufficient for both am confused between opting for cows milk or lactogen 1 powder as doctors give different suggestions. Kindly support your suggestion with reason.

Milk must be sufficient for both babies. Try to feed babies. It is normal and natural, more you keep your breast empty, more milk is produced similarly, milk is left in breast, less milk is produced. It is like demand and supply. You must consume nutritious diet. Any how, if you feel to give top feed, cows milk may be given though no top milk can beat mother's milk.

Stop all medicines. Give him fibrous diet and good quantity of water. Encourage him to sit in toilet for some time daily or even twice in a day. That may solve problem.

Lifestyle Changes to Manage Asthma Better

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Lifestyle Changes to Manage Asthma Better

Asthma is an inflammatory disease, which affects the airways of your lungs (respiratory tract that pumps oxygen into the lungs). It is long term in nature. It is characterized by shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing. It occurs few times a day or few times a week depending on the person it affects. Sometimes it worsens during the night.

What triggers Asthma?

  1. Airborne particles such as dust mites, mold spores, pollen and cockroach waste.
  2. Infections in the respiratory system such as common cold.
  3. Cold air can also trigger asthma.
  4. Physical or outdoor activities which make you pant such as running, skipping, jogging and jumping can cause shortness of breath, thus triggering asthma.
  5. Pollutants and irritants in air such as smoke.
  6. Some medications can also trigger asthma.
  7. Stress and nervous attacks (panic attacks) also trigger asthma.

How to manage asthma better by changing your lifestyle:

  1. Try to avoid keeping animals in your house such as dogs, cats and rabbits. Many times animal fur, waste, urine and saliva contains particles which can cause allergic reactions and make you cough uncontrollably. This in turn triggers asthma attacks. If you have pets try keeping them away from your bedroom.
  2. Dust mites also cause allergies which trigger asthma. So wash your carpets, rugs, bed-linen and pillowcases in hot water.
  3. Bugs and insects such as cockroaches are not only unhygienic, but can also trigger asthma. Cockroach droppings near your bed, kitchen and food are dangerous and you should call an exterminator to get rid of these bugs.
  4. Sometimes, heavy fragrance also aggravates your respiratory tract and triggers shortness of breath. Avoid using heavy perfumes, deodorants and room fresheners.
  5. Pollution also triggers asthma. Dust particles come out from the vehicles and mix with the air. If this air is inhaled, it might trigger uncontrollable asthma. So try to cover your mouth with a cloth when you step out of your house.

Asthma can be very severe and can bring many hurdles in your day to day activities. Changing your lifestyle and certain habits can reduce asthma to a great extent. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pulmonologist.

Hi Doctor, I have confusion regarding which vaccines to purchase for my baby for his 10 weeks vaccination schedule. Please confirm if the below vaccines are effective and good to be taken for DPT, Hib,Hep B, PCV, IPV and Rota? 1. pentavac or Easyfive TT or Quinvaxem? 2. Imovax for IPV? 3. Synflorix for PCV? 4. Rotavac for Rotavirus? Also, our pediatric skipped the 4th week IPV dose saying it was short. Will it incurr any issues or the OPV can substitute IPV?

Hi Doctor,
I have confusion regarding which vaccines to purchase for my baby for his 10 weeks vaccination schedule. P...
Let's answer one by one 1. Opv is NOT a substitute for IPV 2. Minimum two doses of ipv are protective 3. These days Ipv (Imovax) is not available in the market. It's only available at the government hospitals who do not give it to kids born outside. 4. We have newer vaccines like Hexaxim and Easy 6 which includes IPV, that can be given to your 10 week baby. 5. Synflorix and Rita's are fine. 6. You can take ipv even now. Doesn't matter if you missed it at 4 weeks. Hope this helps.

Can I use otrinoz. 025% baby nasal drops for my 2 moths old baby having weight 3. 8kg and if yes please confirm about the dosage.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Don' t use any drops, it will cause mucosal damage if used repeatedly. If child is taking breast feeds at night, his nose is not blocked.

These kind a drinks cut of age is 2 years. We don't these heavy protein load drinks before 2 years. Secondly you have plenty of drinks which are home made. Like kheer. Raab. Rabdi. Apple milk shake. Etc which would give you similar advantage. Alas in cost effective way! ;)

Please keep regular record of her temperature and see if it's rising. You hv to watch for other symptoms like cough cold, vomiting, lethargy or rashes before proceeding with this temperature. I prefer symptomatic treatment and general care till the fever is low grade without any systemic involvement.

Along with the baby, the mother also benefits physically and emotionally from breastfeeding. Due to the release of the prolactin hormones, a peaceful and nurturing sensation fills the mother.
