•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

I am having burning sensation in my mouth!
What medicine or ointment should I use?
To avoid infection and reduce pain in a first-degree burn on the tongue: rinse the area well with cool water for a few minutes. Remove any dirt or particles that may be on the burn. Wet a clean cloth with cool water and hold it on top of the burn. Suck on ice chips or a popsicle to soothe the pain. Gargle with cool water or salt water. Avoid warm or hot liquids, which could irritate the burn. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Sprinkle a few grains of sugar on the tongue to relieve pain.

Hello, you can do warm salt water rinses as a home remedy, but this will give you temporary relief from pain. You need to visit a dentist and get it checked. Get an x-ray done. If there is a cavity, get it filled. If there is infection to the roots of the tooth, you need to get it treated.

Home treatments include: Drinking eight to 10 glasses of water daily with lemon to stimulate saliva and keep glands clear Massaging the affected gland Applying warm compresses to the affected gland Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water Sucking on sour lemons or sugar-free lemon candy to encourage saliva flow and reduce swelling Most salivary gland infections don’t require surgery. However, it may be necessary in cases of chronic or recurring infections. Though uncommon, surgical treatment may involve removal of part or all of the parotid salivary gland or removal of the submandibular salivary gland.

Bleeding gum is due to various reasons for example:- -tooth infection -diabetes mellitus -iron overload -malnutrition -harmonal imbalance -use of aspirin and anticoagulants etc. I advice you visit a dentist once in every 3-4 month for plaque removal. Use soft bristle tooth-brush. Use floss twice a day it prevent plaque formation. Tooth paste with triclosan should be used. Use anti-plaque mouthwash two times in a day for 15 days. A balanced healthy diet should be taken.

I have a white colour coating on my tongue since last 2 months or so. what could be the reason?

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer
Dentist, Jammu
White tongue is the result of an overgrowth and swelling of the fingerlike projections (papillae) on the surface of your tongue. The appearance of a white coating is caused by debris, bacteria and dead cells getting lodged between the enlarged and sometimes inflamed papillae. Causes of papillae hypertrophy or inflammation include, for example: poor oral hygiene dry mouth dehydration smoking or other oral tobacco use alcohol use mouth breathing low roughage diet? eating mostly soft or mashed foods mechanical irritation from sharp tooth edges or dental appliances fever examples of conditions associated with white patches or other discolorations of your tongue include: use of certain medications, such as prolonged use of antibiotics that may bring on an oral yeast infection oral thrush geographic tongue leukoplakia oral lichen planus mouth cancer tongue cancer syphilis hiv/aids.

As you said there is hole between teeth. Its actually a cavity. If it is in early stage , than you teeth can filled with filling material. But before that I will advice to for Dental X ray of that particular teeth .To see the extent of decay. If decay is Close to pulp . In that case RCT would be suitable treatment . Visit your nearest dentist. He will guide you.

Braces - Which Type Is Best For You!

Braces - Which Type Is Best For You!

If you are advised to wear braces, it could be due to crooked / improperly positioned teeth which are not cosmetically pleasing or are not very efficiently chewing the food. Today, there is a big variety of braces available to correct the problems. Although all braces serve a similar purpose, but not all braces are suitable for everyone. Here, I am trying to explain some of the types of braces available, which will help you in a better understanding of braces.

  1. Metal braces: These braces are placed in the outer side of the teeth . A wire is then placed in the brackets which helps in realigning your teeth. This wire needs to be replaced from time to time with other wires usually the wires are replaced in 4 to 6 weeks. This type of braces are the most are the most affordable of the lot and thereby the most common choice.
  2. Ceramic braces: These types of braces are very similar to the metal braces in terms of functionality. The advantage of ceramic braces is that they resemble the colour of the teeth and are less noticeable. These braces are costlier than their metal counterpart and take a longer time to mount. One common complaint about these braces is that they become yellowish over time. It is therefore very important to clean your teeth properly on a daily basis.
  3. Lingual braces: Lingual braces mounted at the back of the teeth. As a result, these braces are hardly visible. They are typically recommended to those whose teeth are not very crooked and the amount of teeth straightening required is very less. These braces are ideal for those patients who require an orthodontic device for a long time. They require very good oral hygiene and are also expensive when compared to other braces.
  4. Damon braces / Self-ligating braces: Damon braces can be mounted on any patient who is fit to get for regular braces. These braces do not require any extra attachment for holding the wire in place. The wire can straight away pass through the brackets making the treatment time shorter by a good six months or so. The healing process tends to be faster with these braces and is one of the easier ones to mount onto the teeth.

They are costing almost close to the cost of the lingual braces. These details are to give you a broad overview of the types of fixed braces available. Your orthodontist will be able to discuss the pros and cons of each after analysing the changes needed and desired. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.
