Colic is a condition of fretfulness and persistent crying especially due to causes like a gas ridden stomach. It usually occurs in new born babies and infants. The babies may cry for up to three hours a day, every day for a period of close to three months. Also, the crying may happen at the same time every single day – usually around evening.
HOW IS COLIC DIAGNOSED?
Paediatricians may diagnose colic based on symptoms and physical examination of the baby. In the case of colic in adults, caused by kidney stones or gallstones, diagnosis is made through imaging tests like CT scan or Ultrasound or MRI.
HOW IS COLIC TREATED?
Usually doctors give medicines that are mild enough to treat this gastric issue in babies including safe remedies like Gripe Water. Also, they would ask you to not make the baby sleep post a feed and help them burp correctly to receive the chest pain. A tummy massage is also suggested.
