A spinal disk consists of a softer center mass that is encased within a harder and tougher hard exterior. When the delicate tissue inside pushes out and tears into the rough surface, a condition called as herniated disk occurs. The condition is also sometimes called as a ruptured disk or a slipped disk. When a Herniated disc in back happens, it can irritate the nearby nerves and result in pain and numbness. It can also cause a protruding pain in the arm or leg. Herniated disc symptoms include general weakness, Pain in the arms and legs and numbness or a tingling sensation in the back- especially in the lower back. There are cases where people do not experience these symptoms in spite of having a herniated disk. The general causes are age-related wear and tear, overweight and lifestyle and genetics in some cases. X-rays can do the diagnosis of a herniated disc, and in advanced cases, an orthopedist can take help of a CT scan or an MRI. Herniated Disc Treatment includes medications and muscle relaxants. Physical therapy is also sometimes advised. If the condition is very severe, then spinal stenosis surgery or a spinal stenosis treatment is done where the protruding portion of the disk is surgically removed. The pressure will be thus released due to this making room for movement. But surgery is very rare and mostly alternative medicines and therapies like acupuncture, massages and yoga are done for relieving the strain.
