Neuro physiotherapy treatment as the name suggests is a rehabilitation program for individuals affected by neurological disorders. It involves treatment of patients who have suffered a loss of bodily function due to injury or disease of the nervous or the neuromuscular system. Common neurological conditions for which the therapy may be suggested include stroke, CVA or TIA, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, injuries of the spinal cord, cerebral palsy, Alzheimer's disease, ALS, brain injury and Parkinson's disease. Depending on your symptoms and condition, the neurologist may suggest physiotherapy in conjugation with the medications. Muscle weakness, poor balance and coordination, uncontrolled muscle spasm and tremors, loss of function, decreased sensation, paralysis, vision impairment and inability to ambulate are some of the conditions that can be resolved by neuro physiotherapy. The strength, coordination level and responsiveness of the affected body part are considered before designing a program schedule. Neuro physiotherapy treatments are custom made to meet individual requirements. Physiotherapy treatment may include passive limb exercises, positioning / splinting, bed exercises, breathing and circulation exercises. One of the problems encountered by individuals undergoing physiotherapy is that in initial stages of the treatment, the patient may feel soreness or a worsening of the condition. However, slow, regulated exercise under specialized guidance can relieve the symptoms in the long run. It falls upon the physiotherapist to keep the patient motivated through the sessions.
