Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. Actually pain at calf/Leg region can be due to many reasons , commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to Tendons, Nerves, Blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be : - Ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - Take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - Stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - Intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - Slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - We will get some blood tests for you - Serum Vitamin D and serum Potassium levels, ESR and CRP Once you have all these reports then you can contact me as i can advise you for proper supplementation Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena Consultant Orthopaedics Fortis Hospital, New Delhi

Sir my question, is while standing in kitchen for making food, I am feeling pain in both knees.

Sir my question, is while standing in kitchen for making food, I am feeling pain in both knees.
Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Am 46 yrs old suffering from knee pain. Its osteoporosis. What is d best measure?

DNB Rheumatology, Grad. Cert. Paed. Rheumat, MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Rheumatologist, Bangalore
It is not osteoporosis . What you have is most probably osteoarthritis. The diagnosis needs to confirmed. If in fact you have osteoarthritis then you need to be assessed for comorbidities and needs to be put on an intensive exercise program with control of pain using safe pain modfiying medications instead of pain killers. This can be done best by a rheumatologist. If you let me know where you live I can give you a refernce of a nearby rheumatologist. You can contact me via my website www.Rheumatologybangalore.Com You can get more information regarding osteoarthritis from the document below. : keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Hi 1) protect the joint with a brace or wrap. 2) rest the joint, avoiding any activities that cause you pain. 3) ice the joint for about 15 minutes, several times each day. 4) compress the joint using an elastic wrap. 5) elevate the joint above the level of your heart. 6) if you are overweight do exercise like swimming or cycling to reduce weight. Still you don't get relief consult me via lybrate as further investigation may be needed.

I got an fracture. How much time it take to heal. I want to know it as soon as possible.

M S Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Mumbai
Hello lybrate user, healing of a fracture depends on the many things. Firstly, on the bone which is fractured. Large bones of the arm, forearm, thigh and leg usually take 6 weeks or more to heal. Smaller bones of the hand and the foot usually take 3 to 4 weeks to heal. Secondly, the region of fracture in a particular bone. End of bones are highly vascular and heal much faster than the middle part fractures. Thirdly, type of fracture. Simple fractures tend to heal faster than a fracture with many bony fragments which we call communition. Also the gap at the fracture site. More the gap, more delayed is the healing fourthly, the type of intervention which is used. Fractures require rigid immobilization to prevent any motion at the fracture site. Any motion at the fracture site can lead to delayed healing. This rigid immobilization can be provided by use plasters, splints or through surgery and fixation with metallic implants. The better the stability, faster is the healing. Lastly, it also depends on the patient's general health and nutrition. The most important factor is the management. I would suggest, you consult a qualified orthopaedic surgeon for the best management. But, in general a fracture would take anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 months to heal depending on all the factors. But any problem at the fracture site would delay it further. Hope this helps.

You should immediately consult your General Physician. And along with that consult a Physiotherapist to rule out any Neuromuscular Issues because when a nerve is not having a healthy motion and gliding or is impinged, it may give rise to altered sensation like burning or tingling sensation. Feel free to contact further. Best wishes.

Your problem can be related to Muscular Spasm.Due to continuous sitting ,your back muscles becomes weak and whilee in same posture there is no movement for long, these muscle go into spasm.and hence you feel pain. After some movement these spasmed muscles becomes somebut mobile and hence pain reduces. So my advise for you is to take frequent 5 minutes break every 60 minutes to get relieved from this problem and for few days start taking this mediine. Homoeopathic medicine RHUS TOX 30 ( Dr Reckeweg) Drink 5 drops in 1 poon freh water 3 time daily Start doing morning exercises daily for 20-30 minutes.

You will majorly have to work with your posture. On your office chair first completely touch your buttocks to the chair, then take a single bedsheet roll it n place dat role at your belt level in sitting. Make sure your hip n knee joint are in same level if not then use a small stoll under your feet. After every 15-20 mins just get out of your sitting posture. Use drawings n pop ups on computer as: sit straight; get up.

Ozone Therapy For Back Pain

MBBS, MD, FIPP
Pain Management Specialist, Delhi
Ozone Therapy For Back Pain

Ozone in pivd/slipped disc

In case of prolapsed inter-vertebral disc (or, slipped disc) different other mechanism acts. Inter-vertebral disc is filled with nucleus pulposus which is a jelly like material which holds water (90% of disc material is water). When ozone is injected into the disc the proteo-glycan bridges in the jelly-like material are broken down and they no longer capable of holding water. As a result disc shrinks and mummified which is equivalent to surgical discectomy and so the procedure is called ozone discectomy or ozonucleolysis. It has been published in anesthesia and pain journals that up to 85% of disc operation can be avoided with these non-surgical interventions. Success rate is about 88% which is comparable to surgical discectomy (50% to 90%). Complications are remarkably low and much less than surgery.

Ozone therapy

Minimally invasive procedure using small needle and probe to remove disc material of prolapsed disc, releasing pressure on nerves and relieving pain in most of the patients of prolapsed / bulging / slipped disc.

Rotating probe is inserted through needle into the disc under x-ray/ fluoroscopic guidance

Rotating tip removes small portion of disc material. Because only enough of the disc is removed to reduce pressure inside the disc, the spine remains stable

Insertion site covered with bandage. Recovery is fast as unlike surgical decompression no bone or muscle is cut. 2-3 days of bed rest and may return to normal activity within one week.

Ipsc india has been pioneer in ozone discectomy or ozonucleolysis for slipped disc or prolapsed disc. We have treated thousands of patients not only from across india but also international patients from usa, uk, nigeria, afghanistan, iraq, bangladesh, nepal and saudi arabia. We have the original, closed circuit-self calibration ozone machine, imported from italy.
